Rules for Magic Crystals

Postby Ethica » August 7th, 2012, 12:13 pm

The Wizard discovers a magic crystal...
crystal.jpg

but what does it do?

The only instance I've put one in a quest so far is as a magic supression crystal to stop the wizard or elf from using a spell as an easy way out of a particular situation.

Does anyone have any other ideas for rules for magic crystals?

Oh boy! Here we go!

* It's a trap! The doors closes and the crystal drains life from everyone in the room each round. Destroy the crystal or die! Doors are locked until the crystal is destroyed. (Genie anyone! :D)
* Everyone, including monsters gets a buff. +1 attack or +1 defense die. Or only the monsters gets a buff, idunno lol.
* Enemy spellcasters can recycle their spells indefinitely until the crystal is destroyed.
* It's a seerstone. Touching it will reveal the content on any single room on the board. Only once (per player?)
* Illusion stone. All monsters appear as chaos knights, but remain their own stats. Don't explain why they only roll 1 die or die so easily. The trick is to try and avoid combat, and just scare the players.
* Touch to receive random effect.

Hmm... That's it for now.

1. The first Hero standing next to the crystal may pull one spell card (of those already cast) or scroll or whatever you have (, but has to make use of it within the next three rounds).

2. The first Hero standing next to the crystal may roll a combat die to determine what happens
:skull: = he gets 2 points to restore Body and Mind, however he wants to divide them.
:whiteshield: = he gets 4 points to restore Body and Mind, however he wants to divide them.
:blackshield: = he loses 2 Body or Mind points, however he wants to divide them.

3. If you have two of the crystals they could be teleportation portals.

4. Such a crystal's light could hurt some types of monsters that they can never enter a room containing a crystal.

5. The crystal forces the Evil Wizard player to tell the first Hero standing next to it, where a room with [insert variables according to the hero's question; for example, an artifact,
which is the quest's objective] in it is exactly. However, he still has to find a path leading there.

The magic crystal:
1) has a PIEZOELECTRIC EFFECT!!! It can be used to make thousands of electronics components!
2) can be ground down into sand and then heated and made into GLASS!
3) can be lit from below to LOOK ARTSY FARTSY COOL!
4) can be sold at a ridiculous premium to suckers who will BELIEVE ANY STORY you make up about beneficial CRYSTAL "ENERGIES" (bonus: include a recording of "The Age of Aquarius")

Flesh, you are far too cynical :!: How about giving it a rub, to see what transpires :?:
Perhaps a Fountain of Happiness, all beings lay down their arms and Party |_P |_P
Perhaps a large boulder falls from the roof and conks the fondler :cookie:
The list is endless

the first Hero to touch it is teleported to another room, and the crystal crumbles to dust. MUHAHAHAHAHA!

seriously, just make up anything you think is fitting in your quest, and use the crystal as a means to act out that gimmick.

Well, I followed your advice, Ken, and something I cannot repeat in here happened.

Oh...you meant ...rub the crystal?!?

Yes, rub the crystal and bathe in the fountain of happiness. Which part didn't you understand?
