Another alternative rolling thought from my mind

Postby torilen » April 20th, 2013, 11:06 pm

Okay, so here is yet another idea I came up with for those (few) who desire using alternative
rolls/dice for special heroes, monsters, and artifacts.

Roll Tables. I tried to include as many variations as I could, to cover as many possibilities as
might come up.
These roll tables require only normal six-sided dice...not combat dice.
Notice there is one set that is labeled "deadly" - hero and monster gets only one chance for defense,
and there are four skulls. Could be great to use for a curse.
Both heroes and monsters get special sets that include higher chances for skulls, as well as special
sets that include higher chances for shields. On the higher chances for skulls, it starts with one chance
for 2 skulls from one roll - and then 2 chances, and then one chance for 3 skulls from one roll.

I've included a pdf for easy printing, and a picture for easy viewing (to see if you want to print)

Anyhow. If anyone has any thoughts, I'll be happy to entertain them. This is sort of a work in progress.
Enjoy.

Perhaps you could add the colors from those matching german dice?

This could be a good reference for creating your own colored dice. I'd rather not want to reference a whole chart. (Then again, I'd rather not make colored dice.) It also would work for those who didn't have white combat dice, or wanted more.

One quick thought that came to me as I checked the attachment is to include the unique set of die results seperately at the bottom of Equipment Cards and Artifact Cards. Though it could be assumed default equipment from the Game System used standard combat dice, those without white combat dice could make some shortsword Equipment Cards that included something like this:

1= :blackshield: 2= :skull: 3= :skull: 4= :skull: 5= :whiteshield: 6= :whiteshield:

or this:

1=BS 2=SK 3=SK 4=SK 5=WS 6=WS

As for special die results, say you wanted a flail that did extra damage, but it hurt defense. It's card could contain your entry "J" results at the bottom:

1= :whiteshield: 2= :skull: :skull: 3= :skull: 4= :skull: :skull: 5= :blackshield: 6= :blackshield:

or this:

1=WS 2=SKx2 3=SK 4=SKx2 5=BS 6=BS

Similarly, the Quest Notes section and Monster Cards would also have dice information included.

My main reason for coming up with the alternative dice and rolling options...
I like the idea of those german dice, but from looking at them, I don't like the
faces offered on them. They don't seem well thought out. As stated, I tried to
come up with as many variations as possible - really lethal dice, dice that are better
for defense (both for heroes and monsters)...the same for better attacks...etc.
The german dice don't seem to have those sorts of things.

Other reasons - I want more dice, but don't really have the money (or want to put out the
money) for more dice. And yes, one can simply reference quest notes for anything special,
but you would still be stuck with either the white combat dice, or to just using normal six-
sided dice. WHICH...is kind of what I've done...just got rid of the need for regular combat
dice all together.
