Here's a battle map we can use if you like. It could be modified by typing in a special character in each space that contained a wall or obstacle. Quote, copy, and paste it at the top of a sword-fighting-tourney thread along with instructions for use, including initial figure placement and any special obstacles/rules. It can then be used in one of two ways: 1) Each contest map would be quoted at the start of a battle by both contestants for editing thier movement; a contestant types his agreed-upon letter on the space he wishes to fight and move from. 2) They could instead simply anounce their new coordinates from the thread's original map: "The Elf moves up 3 spaces to F7" or "The Elf moves e,e,e to F7".

A limitation of this kind of fighting is that it is real-time. Both contestants would have to be online, or a fight could take days. Maybe that is okay with people...I don't know. The advantage is movement could be used along with obstacles to enhance tactics. Good news for a Wizard or Elf. I think missile-using Heroes could benefit as well, if such weapons were permitted (back to a gladitorial-style contest).

My other (mapless) thought for a sword-fighting contest would be to simply have each combatant roll a prescribed number of attacks and defenses in a single post--perhaps ten of each would work. Results would afterwards be applied, with the victor being the contestant that scored the most Body Points of damage without being reduced to zero. Movement rolls could also optionally be used, allowing missiles or magic to be used without an answering attack if Movement were greater than the opponent's.

I haven't had time to really sit and think hard on it...but at first glance this looks great.
As you said, it would take many days to get through one fight, unfortunately, so I think
trying to do this through a play-by-post would not work. For a chat thing, though, this
would be an excellent base to work off of.
If I ever have the time to do something like that, I may see if anyone wants to try it out.
Thanks for putting the time into it.
