[Quest Pack] The Black Mountain passage

Postby Maike05 » April 30th, 2013, 2:18 pm

Hi everybody ! I've always wanted to play the mines of moria quest with Heroquest but I never found any quest pack to do so... Therefore, I created my own !

A note from Mentor:

My Heroes ! The Emperor struggles battling South The Black Mountains against legions of orcs lead by cruel Grak, the orc Warlord. Reinforcements have taken the Black Fire pass, but may arrive too late. Loretome told me there is an ancient and forbidden dwarven fortress under the mountains that would save you weeks and balance the odds in our favor. However, rumours say that the dwarf's love of gold have lead them to dig too deep under the surface, and it is told that Flames and Shadows have taken them. Probably some folk's legend, but beware of the dangers you alone will face, as it is also told that no one ever returned from this path, nor any dwarfs...

QUEST 1 - The dwarven gate

Quest notes:
"The map the stranger gave you at the tavern leads here. The Darven fortress entrance should be located right in front of you, however, you only see walls of rocks. It will soon be night and these mountains are infested by orcs and even mountain trolls. You should hurry finding the entrance. Unfortunately, dwarven gates are hidden to unfriendly eyes."

(A) If a Hero searches for hidden doors, he will find the dwarven gate. It is written : "Speak friend, and enter". When the Heroes have solved the riddle, the gate opens and a Kraken appears in the pond on "B" and attacks immediately.

(B) Kraken
Body : 2 (2 tentacles) Attack : 4 Defense : 4 Mind : 2 Movement : 0
Special rule : The Kraken cannot be defeated, however, its tentacles can be cut. It attacks with his tentacles on the board horizontally by 10 spaces long. Roll two dice and attack the given section(s). On a 6, the attack fails.

(C)When all Heroes have entered the Fortress tell them the front gate collapsed by a last attack of the Kraken and that they are now trapped and must move on. The first room is filled with dwarven skeletons, predicting nothing good for what's ahead... It will take you 3 days to reach the other side, let's hope your presence will pass unseen...

QUEST 2 : The three passages

"You've ventured deep down under the surface for more than one day now. Previous rooms and passages explored were all empty of life, but full of bones and broken weapons. It seems a great battle took place some ages ago and no whisper of wind nor touch of light had been heard or felt against a long time. You begin to fear what Mentor forgot to mention about this long forgotten dwarven realm. You were lost in your thoughts when you come upon a crossing ! Three passages lay ahead, which one will you take ? "

Image

(A) The stranger at the tavern did not mention about this crossing. Anyway it seems he did not tell you about anything but the price for that old cursed map ! Now choose a way. Only place one section of board and wait until the heroes have reached another board section to reveal the rest.

(B) It seems you've come across an underground river and ... a band of orcs ! Better cut the ropes of the bridge while there is still time left !
Bridge : body : 2 Defense : 1
The treasure chest holds 75 gold coins.

(C) You've just disturbed the orcs's dinner ! Lucky for you, now is time for desert !
The treasure chest holds 100 gold coins.

(D) This magical pond collects water from above levels. Any Hero drinking it will restore one die of body points.

I like it so far. As sjeng said...I love the rules for the kraken attacks.

Question - the first piece of map you have posted...where did you find that,
and is there a larger map to go with it. That looks really neat.

This looks great! I'm going to have to get myself a set of those tiles, are they all advanced HeroQuest?

Any news on this yet? And also: are you going to make them into a portrait A4 paper format, so I can print them?
