So we have so many ways we've all tried to experiment with "buffing" monsters and things.
I am going to just throw out some ideas which were based on my poor memory. At one time I really didn't have monster stats memorized for HQ and so I'd kind of tend towards thinking it was one way and then consult the card and go "oohhh." You'll still see me do this sort of thing when it comes to expansion monsters of course (like forgetting that the Elven archers/warriors have 3 BP while the Elven Assassin has only 2; and getting these Elven characters confused with the Mercenaries from Frozen Horror), but in the 90's and even 2000's I often couldn't keep it straight without the cards/GM screen nearby!
Here they are. I guess a lot depends upon how tough or cool I thought they looked in the pictures.
Goblins:
I tended to think they attacked with 1 die and defended with 2 for some reason. I guess that's not so much of a buff, but there it is. I'd often forget how many mind points they had (other than the undead, I think I always had to look). And who wastes magic on a goblin anyway?
Orcs:
I felt like these always were 2 BP monsters for some reason.
Fimir:
I've wanted to give them 4 defend dice before for some reason.
Skeletons:
Sometimes I feel like they should be moving 7 squares. I think I thought about giving them diagonal attacks but I knew this was a change not a confusion as to what it said on the card.
Zombies:
I tended to think they were slower than they were, but then I'd remember the Mummies move 4 squares already. I tended to think they had 2 BP and attack with 3 dice.
Mummies:
No change, surprisingly.
Chaos Warriors:
I think sometimes I'd forget they defend with four dice, thinking it was five.
Gargoyles:
I'd think they attacked with 5 dice. Or else I'd think they had 4 BP instead of 3.
And when I got really tired, I'd forget sometimes even that monsters only defended with black shields! (played some really long games, give me a break!)
