Here lately, I've been playing with the rules of having a gnome as a character - haven't figured out what
would make them special. Mostly - I've given them the same AD, DD, Body, and Mind of a dwarf, but give them
the spell casting like an elf. Not sure what else would make them different though.
As for leprachauns - I've had an idea for them for a while, just haven't typed it up. If an enemy, you fight them as normal,
and yes, they would have spells. However, if you beat them, instead of dying, they give you a treasure and then just disappear.
You know, like the old myth says - catch a leprachaun and they give you a pot of gold.
Now - if you want to answer the question of whether they would be good or evil. That is a role-playing question. In role-playing
terms, many would call the HeroQuest game a dungeon crawl - simply working your way through a dungeon and fighting enemies
with no good encounters to be heard of. That is the difference with Dungeons and Dragons - in D&D, they introduce the idea of
good encounters, where you might not have to fight but instead can talk or reason with the enemy, or it might be a good person
that will help you out in some way.
ON A SEPARATE NOTE
I've also been working on different types of genies for encounters. You know, Efreet (fire genie), djinn(earth genie), marid(water genie),
and so on - if you want to go with the D&D classification of the types. You could go with the ancient religion classificaion and use the
shayṭān, the ghūl, the marīd, the ‘ifrīt, and the jinn. Not sure what I would use yet. Probably the D&D classification, because it uses
the elements.
When fighting genies, if you beat them, they would grant a wish or something, and then disappear, instead of dying.
Just a thought.
