The Dreaded Axe Mummy

Postby chaoticprime » April 10th, 2013, 5:13 pm

So this started off as a joke, of sorts. I had found this old Games Workshop Fantasy Marauders miniature in one of my boxes of old minis that was posed and scaled suitable for HeroQuest. The miniature was a mummy holding this large goofy-looking axe. Later that week I was running my regular game of HeroQuest, Quest 11 to be precise. I was a bit high and decided to have some fun with the players. At the trapped chest at "B" that triggers the Gargoyle, a player searched for treasure after triggering the trap and beating down the gargoyle. I told him that, "From within the chest, comes the Axe Mummy--The Bastion of Chaos' most infamous denizen. Riches await the heroic adventurer that faces down its wicked axe and triumphs." Axe Mummy's first attack hit for six skulls and basically obliterated the Wizard. I told them that the weight of its axe was so great, that on the next hero's turn after the Axe Mummy made an attack, its combat dice used for defense would be limited to 1. The Dwarf then pounded the Axe Mummy into dust.

Hours later, I sat down and sought out the miniatures' origin and found it. I took a photo of the mini from a catalog and gave it to my wife to be edited in photoshop and then placed onto this card:

Image

Enjoy...because its a mummy--with an axe.

From 1992-- http://www.solegends.com/citcat1993/c93561-00.htm 'Mummy 8" at this link. This miniature can probably be found through eBay or eCrater, and is not by any means rare or completely unavailable.

EDIT: I messed up some text on the card--I'll fix it up later.

The mechanic is actually pretty good. It gets one big hit and is then severely weakened. Like a suicide unit.
Maybe it should start out with even higher defense?

Once the heroes see an axe mummy they know they should be careful.

Every place has to have at least one; its the only way to keep them them from getting back together to do what they do.

No, he's rolling his 'r'.

I figured that to be a fake dwarf-cliché accent. But you, sir, as a Brit, would have to know. ;) |_P

Although a stuttering barbarian would be HILARIOUS!
You know, big, strong and an excellent fighter! But he has a stutter

Man, if I ever get to play D&D I want to roll a stuttering barb!

A barbarian played by Sylvester McCoy would be awesome.
