It's still an advncement system that doesn't allow the Wizard to attack with two weapons, but it's open. You learn, you develop, you advance. Both the Barbarian and the Elf can become Ninja-like characters... It opens up the game for what it is.

Totally. However, perhaps using the term Human would of been better when considering GB's potential response. In my eyes a Thief, Assassin etc can be of any race.

Added character intro fluffs.

Just edit the previous post if you've got something else to say, it will be seen. You're still doing it!

I actually made all the potions in the expansions usable by anyone.

I enjoy talking about it too when it's about interesting rule mechanics but I'm not interested in any further debate about how to introduce those mechanics into the game. You obviously prefer a different method with character progression being more open to give the players more freedom while I prefer it to be more structured to make the heroes more distinctive, and that's fine.

I was toying with that idea but wanted to keep it as close to the original as possible. For the reference print outs anyways. If we wanted to play that way we could easily ignore it for that play through.

You've created all these great ideas but yet if no one plays that character, they're wasted, not in the game. It's be a shame to not bring them in, in other ways.

Coming from the EU version and only learning there was a different US version when I first cam here I tend to view the EU rules as scripture to be added to and built around without being altered and the US rules as open to editing. Especially when they include things I absolutely hate like drinking a potion after you've been killed and the dwarf and barbarian using spell scrolls.

If people such as yourself want to use anything from the heroes but in a different way then they're more than welcome to do that. But I'm not making them for anyone else, I'm making them for me because I enjoy doing it as a kind of art piece for each hero and then sharing them with other people.

You could go through and join the double and triple posts to drop the post cost count down. Either that or I'll rename the thread, edit the first post and start a new topic for the rogues.

Probably best to start a new thread for the other characters. Possibly even better to keep each in 1.

My base heroes are called Warrior, Sojourner, Adept, and Wizard. After specializing we can call them more specialized terms, but there's no need to.
A totally open advancement system and one of the bigger catharsesesisises for me when writing MK2 of HQHV.
One spell set with, say, 36cards, individually picked in a given order, no specialization needed but encouraged. You can BE a Necromancer from the start if you want to. Choose the closest thematic 9 spells and I'll call you that.
That's only where the advantages start, with the limitation of 5 to now 1 deck for hero spells...
