Indeed I did! There just isn't any high quality Fimir art out there, so Photoshop was the best option! I'm very happy with the result.

There is, it's just all B&W!

Hello I just saw your cards they look awesome ! I hope you'll stay motivated until the end and taht you'll find enough hi res ressource to complete the sets ! Would be nice tu include a checklist in the first post to keep you motivated :D

Some positive feedback now : I'm not à Big fan of having the heroquest logo on each card I feel you can put some other relevant information there like icons and stuff. I would also like if you could use another font than the current one. I think you should use something more bold.

Kr,

Oh don't worry, the motivation is there! I've been working on these cards with any free time I've had over the past week. I'm pretty close to having them all done (the base game cards, anyway, haven't started on expansions yet), I'm just now working on a good way to present them. I'll have something for everyone very soon, likely by tomorrow.

Thank you for the "positive feedback", although I think you mean "constructive criticism"! I actually really like the old HeroQuest logo on the cards, as that is my tie in to the classic game, a way to connect it in to the old game while still completely overhauling the format of the card. The font is something I could look at a little more. I did go through several fonts before I decided on the one I'm using now. I like how it feels like a font that could be on an old parchment with the over-sized uppercase letters, but I appreciate the feedback of wanted the font to be bolder and perhaps more readable. I'm going to finish up and post the cards as is for now, but I do have all of them saved as photoshop files, so it's not too tough to change something on all of them!

I'm so sorry. After I import the illustrations into photoshop and finish the card, I delete the original files. I did, however, add the original illustrator credit to the bottom of all the cards, so it should be relatively easy to search their work online if you are looking for the original artwork (many were taken from http://www.deviantart.com).

Well, it's a couple days later than I originally thought, but I have actually finished all the cards! After all the positive feedback and active interest, I was on a tear working on these cards whenever possible. Once I realized I was going to have them all done soon, I figured I'd forego posting a few cards at a time and just post the whole shebang at once. I've put together a little webpage to showcase my Homebrew project so as not to gum up the board here with lots of hi-res images. Below is the link. Again, comments and feedback is welcome. Let me know if you spot any typos. Keep in mind that I adjusted wordings on many of the cards, either to fit the illustration (mostly just for Treasure), or to create some consistency (because some of the official wordings were quite varied), but I still welcome feedback if you think I messed up the actual implementation of a card in regards to the rules.

Without further ado, here you are:

Enjoy!

They are absolutely great, and most, though beeing "modern" in style even capture the mood of HeroQuest extremely well in my opinion.
It's hard to say which ones I like the best, so I'll start with the ones I like the least ;)
It's easier, since the few probloematic ones sitck out between all the awesomenes.
- The Dwarf. Great picture, but why does the hammer glow this way? Is it magical? Is there even a magic hammer in HeroQuest? Even then, a beginnner hero should start with a normal weapon. Given the skills you showed at the Fimir, you should be able to replace it.
- The Wizard. Too old for a beginner.
- The Orc. This picture is fitting for some boss character, but not for the rank and file orcs that fill the dungeons.
- The Zombie has only a minor flaw - his modern belt. Should be easy to photoshop.
- Borin's armor doesn't look like it would fit a dwarf.
- Fear Chaos Spell. The picture is great, really gives the wanted expression. But there are no Drow in HQ (of course you are free to introduce them, but for a spell card, a more standard race should be choosen), and the over-long ears are more fitting for WOW than for HQ. Perhaps it's possible to change the skin color and skale down the ears a bit.
Have a look ;)

Thank you so much for the praise and criticism. I'll respond to each of your dislikes individually:

Big Bene wrote:- The Dwarf. Great picture, but why does the hammer glow this way? Is it magical? Is there even a magic hammer in HeroQuest? Even then, a beginnner hero should start with a normal weapon. Given the skills you showed at the Fimir, you should be able to replace it.

Hmmm. I made the decision to not be a stickler for the weapon in the picture (I mean, the barbarian on the card has an axe, not a broadsword) because it's just to showcase the character and what he can be, not at his starting point. I wasn't too concerned about the hammer, although I admit, your point of "there are no hammers in HQ" did cross my mind. I figured there should be a magic hammer, and I'm sure there are several fan made hammers out there. I am still considering looking for a new dwarf pic altogether though, which I think would be better than trying to match up a different weapon with the current illustration.

- The Wizard. Too old for a beginner.

Not sure I understand this, but I think you're saying the Wizard shouldn't be that old when he starts out. Again, I take the card to be the character not at his starting point. Plus, Gandalf has been old looking for decades!

- The Orc. This picture is fitting for some boss character, but not for the rank and file orcs that fill the dungeons.

I do agree with you here. I did have trouble finding a generic looking Orc illustration that was still cool enough to be featured on the card.

- The Zombie has only a minor flaw - his modern belt. Should be easy to photoshop.

I did kind of settle on this pic, and yes, you're right, his belt (and pants for that matter) are too modern. I will likely pick a new pic for this one in the future rather than photoshop the belt. I want a Zombie that is a little more of a fallen warrior as opposed to some bum.

- Borin's armor doesn't look like it would fit a dwarf.

I suppose you are right on this one, I could just horizontally scale it and it should be fine! I don't know, I probably won't change this one because anyone except the Wizard can wear it.

- Fear Chaos Spell. The picture is great, really gives the wanted expression. But there are no Drow in HQ (of course you are free to introduce them, but for a spell card, a more standard race should be choosen), and the over-long ears are more fitting for WOW than for HQ. Completely agree with you. Honestly, this was my least favorite pic of the bunch, and I really settled for the illustration after hours of searching for a good "terrified warrior". I never thought of making this guy look more like a traditional elf, which is why I thank you very much for the idea! I have, in fact, already fixed it, made the ears WAY smaller, and colored his skin. I'm very happy with the result and am actually quite proud of this card now!
