Treasure-Artifacts by Torilen - Set 4

Postby torilen » September 28th, 2012, 3:16 pm

Okay - got a brand new set of treasure and artifact cards finished up.
You will notice two things here:
First - Still don't have any pics for my cards. Maybe I'll take a look at goblin's stuff
(if that would be okay with you).
Second - If anyone is a fan of D&D, you'll notice these cards bear a strong resemblance
to a certain D&D expansion book. I won't mention it...if you know it, I hope you find my
HQ conversion acceptable.

Enjoy.

Sorry - I didn't give a good description of this set.

It is based on mental abilities - more like psionic powers
than magic, I suppose, but could be a form of magic. Offers
the ability to create weapons using your mind, connect your
mind to others, etc.

Just a quick description for you. This set involves that sort of
thing. Hope you enjoy.

One question:
When reading a monsters thoughts with the ESP Rune Stone, does the monster have a specified "mother tounge" that he also think his thoughts in? Or does a monster allways only know one language?
It seems that it should not be enough to have just one language in common with the monster...

If you were playing just simple HQ with few house rules, I would rule it that, unless the
monster were special...maybe fimirs and dragons only, or something like that...then they
all speak the same language.

Or you could do some very light house rule, and let all heroes pick one or two monsters that
they know the language of...they are heroes, after all, and travel a lot, and would have picked
something up here and there.

Playing an in-depth roleplaying version, however:
Goblins = goblin language
Orcs = orc language
Firmirs = firmir language
Chaos warriors = normal language, perhaps some regional language that they all speak
.....maybe it is the language of where they were trained or something

And then, of course, the dwarf and the elf would have their own language, as well.

Undead don't usually think, and so do speak much.

Very true... 8-)

It's just that I imagine that each (living) monster has its own language that he "thinks" in, and knows a common language with every other monster on the map...orders have to be given somehow ;)

And what a bout the Gargoyle? He is not strictly undead is he? I suppose he can bee seen as more of a Golem type of being, which also would disqualify any language...but I see him more as a deamon possessed statue, which would make "deamon tounge" his thinking language :geek: . What is your ruling on this?

You can avoid all the real-world hassles with language and say that the ESP stone reads the actual brain process behind thoughts; therefore, the reader's mind will interpret the process into his own mother tongue.

Any creature will therefore be readable, whether it has higher powers of reasoning, or more base powers of instinct ex: Zombie Dog.

Templar - yeah...there would be demon, angel, draconic, lizard, etc. in my games. I am not
sure about the gargoyle. I sometimes see those as their own race...and sometimes I see them
as creations - statues of sorts...they could also be seen as demon possessed something or others.

I haven't really given it much thought.

El flesh - yes, that is always one option to use with that rune stone. As said, that would certainly keep
in line with the simple rules of HQ and still allow for the use of the item. That would also allow the GM
some room to mislead the players or use very vague description of "instinct" or "emotion", and therefore
bring about some neat role-playing, if that is what your group is into.
