Hero Quest 3D Printed

Just thought I would share what I have been doing. Also, to show that it is possible for someone new in all aspects of 3D printing and miniature painting that with determination you too can do it.

3d Printed Hero Quest board.


The past 4-5 months, I have been working on this project. I've had to learn how to manipulate 3d files.
I would get files off of Thingiverse.com and alter them to fit my needs. Such as size and shape.

Resources:
True tile sample pack
Rampage sample pack
Thingiverse models

Needs:
3d Printer & Filiment
Modular Tile Models
Modular wall Models
Decoration Models



then, I printed for 4-5 months straight.

Then I had to learn how to paint them.

Painting:
1. Prime in Black paint
2. Base color coat of gray
3. Unbleached titanium white dry brush
4. Polyshades minwax coat
5. Dull coat to remove sheen effect.

Looks very impressive, I know I would be soo proud if I managed to create something half as good as this. Have you played with it yet?

I do have one questions however, have you made any doors and do your walls come apart so you can put them in?

I believe "wgmcdowell" got a lot of the 3d print files from www.thingiverse.com

I have had a look on there and there is sooo much stuff people have already made for dungeon crawlers and wargames in general I think I may have to look into buying a 3D printer!

Yup, walls and door are completely modular. Remove wall, put in door, and fill in empty space with another wall.
I made a one square wall, two square wall, and a corner wall.

I used the Zombicide doors I found on thingiverse, and I made them thicker so they would print as one piece.

I'm still not finished painting doors yet, but I made a door holder to keep doors organized while not in play.

I like how you're making the room floors different colors like the original. Just very subtly.

You should put the files up on shapeway so people without a printer can have these fine. I would love to do this.

I'll do some research on the Shapeways thing, but I know one 4x4 tile would cost 50$ for the cheapest material... white plastic. I might put up some of the other items that have been altered enough to not violate intellectual copyright.

But, I have painted some of my decor.

It might be more worth it to buy one of those build it yourself 3D printers.

Yes I have fallen out of love with Shapeways. I have used their service before on some of my model miniatures. They have good quality, detailed printing, and can print in many materials, but it is expensive. I had to go with making my own, and with many great artist on the web offering stuff for free, no brainer for me.

I may end up doing castings of the HeroQuest Minis though, just to get the amount of Detail I want.
MoldStar 30 for the mold, and one of their resins for the casts.

Here is a my base cost list:

Flash Forge Finder 3d Printer $499
(Got mine for this price)

2kg Grey PLA Filament Spool $20
(I used 8 spools, so $160)

Army Painter Paint set $79
(Got Mega Set 2, came with 3 brushes, but you can buy brushes EL CHEAPO)

Primers, polyshades, and Dull Coat spray cans $70
(Used Krylon Black for priming, Minwax Polyshades, and Army Painter Dull coat)

Stick Glue and Blue Painters tape $30
(Need these for 3d print bed)
