My dog passed away

My 12 year Toy Rat Terrier, Lilly, died last night. She suddenly took ill and we rushed her to the dog hospital. She had pneumonia and congestive heart failure. Around 1:30AM the vet called with bad news. Lilly had taken a turn for the worst and the only option left was to end her suffering. We had no idea she was ill. She was up until late last night acting happy and full of life. But I saw the x-rays while we were at the vet deciding on her options, she was in bad shape. We were going to put her on an expensive doggie heart medicine and take her to see the specialist....we were going to help her as much as we could.
I buried her near the berry plants. She loved it when I fed her fresh berries from the garden. I will miss her, but she is in the garden and I will pass her daily in the Summers.

I am heart broken. My best friend has walked across the Rainbow Bridge.

Awe so sorry to hear that. I still think about my dog all the time who died about ten years ago now I think. They're amazing animals and they really get into your heart. :( I'm just happy to have had such a nice friend. I think that's the way to look at if you can manage it.

Very sorry to hear it. I've had two dogs and three rabbits die through my life so far. The one dog was
a long time ago. I remember her, but not really. The other dog was a sad affair, but he was a fun
and great dog. Lots of good memories.

The rabbits...they've been rough. They were my "adult pets"...I still can't look at their pictures without
getting teary. It's still rough, and they died 9 years ago...6 years ago...and two years ago.

That's super sad.
For what's it worth, I feel with you.
Heads up!

Telling you the stories of our deceased pets may or may not be the right way, but this here may at least be good to lighten the mood a bit:
A few weeks ago, a group of our quails hatched, and as always, some of the chicks did not make it.
My 3-year-old son told me, in a sad voice: "The chicks have died". Then, after short thinking, somwhat relieved: "Perhaps the chicks have been very old".

I'm so sorry to hear that.
Pets can be as much of a person as a human.

She'll be waiting for you on the other side.

Sorry to hear about your dogs passing.

I have a few dogs buried in my back yard as well with head stones that I made for them. Some days are tough and others not so much, so I understand what your going through.

I hope that with the support that everyone at the Inn has given will help you through your tough time.

CynthiaLee,

I know for many, an animal companion is far more than a pet and is truly a part of the family. I sense that this may be the case here. It's great that you will be able to keep your feelings of connection with Lilly.

Thoughts will be with you and yours.

Thank you all for the kind words. It has been difficult the last 2 days but I can't let it get me too down. I have 3 other dogs still alive that need my love and care.

Yes Lilly was family. She was an avid mouse killer. She loved the morning play fight ritual with her pack mates. She never met a human she didn't instantly love and adore.
