Green Stuff my first attempt to make a miniature

Hi all,
These days I've being trying to create a new Elf with green stuff, I used some spare parts and the head of HQ Elf quest pack Elven Warrior.
What do you think?

bold attempt at creating a mini on your first attempt. me myself i spent a long time researching and making small modifications etc with green stuff...it was a long long time before i attempted a mini.
its not bad for your first attempt. if i could throw a tip your way. spend longer on each individual part. learn how greenstuff works (cures etc) and do each part in small steps.
but all in all not bad

Well... I don't think it's "great", but it's a start.
He is a bit too "box" shaped (especially for an elf) and I miss some details on his clothes - folds, wrinkles etc.
Same goes for the shield. Some details would be great.

I don't know what tools you have available, but having a decent set with many different heads definitely makes things easier.
When sculpting something that small, having a tool with just the right shape and size can mean the world.

If you really want to get into sculpting I can only recommend buying a huge amount of greenstuff online - like 36 inches.
It's much much cheaper than buying small packs (especially from GW). 36 inches of gs online is around £7.
That way you don't have to worry about wasting gs on tests and practice sessions - or scrapping something and starting over.

Thanks for the comments, for sculpturing I used a toothpick and a modeling knife.
I know I need some sculpturing tools to make details, I will buy some and give a another go and hopefully I'll create something more detailed.
Can any of you, point me to youtube or website sculpturing tutorials?

Also, buy Milliput, the regular grey/yellow type, the white type, and a bottle of Vallejo Plastic Putty and a unit of Vallejo Pumice for textures.
In addition to what Goblin-king said, because all these things dry and behave differently and are great and less great for different purposes, textures, and poses.
I don't know if you did, but sculpt around a wire puppet you make for yourself. Put it into a basic shape and posture with the correct proportions and build up general body shapes before you start any detail work. I mean, make something resembling the end product and then go for finesse, so that you always see the proportions in front of you.
There are "sculpting mannequins" available if you want some finished ones. I don't know if those are poseable however.

For the websites, I'd definitely try youtube for any "sculpting" or "how to sculpt" videos. If these two searches spit out too much unrelated pottery *lemony goodness*, add "miniature" to your search words.
