(I'm 1/16 Irish, so I feel I can claim the lineage - Great grandfather was
the first generation born here in the States - William Joseph Marley).

The great derailer strikes again.
I'm 1/8 Polish - it's the only drop of noble blood I've got, so perhaps I should claim this heritage... Well, I normally don't really think of it.

How does the fraction thing work?.
I can understand half and half, if your parents are from different countries, but any other fraction seems like someone started looking in the past, but stopped at some point where he couldn't look further back.
So if you are 1/8 french, 3/8 italian, and 1/2 german seems like a legit option, but how do you know that your french great grandfather wasn't in fact 1/4 english, making you 1/32 english, and that great great great grandfather wasn't 1/8 spanish, making you 1/256 spanish?

How about another occasion? You mother is 1/2 italian and 1/2 english, and your father is 1/2 german, 1/2 english.
Are you 1/2 english, 1/4 italian and 1/4 german? Your 1/2 english part comes from 2 different sides, can the two quarters add up to make up a half?

Not always. Sometimes I helicopter wildly while putting the towels out.

Not the toes. Nobody eats frog toes. But the legs, yes, I love those.

And tasoe is right in questioning all this national ancestry. Somewhere down the times you're bound to have someone born in, let's put an example here, Silesia, which at the time was German and now isn't. Is that German or Polish ancestry?
Do you account for national or cultural backgrounds? After a Zombie apocalypse, does it all matter in the least?
My comment was satirical from the get go.
I cannot be proud of stemming from someone I don't know and haven't even seen pictures of, so the great-grandparents are the last point of interest to me. One of them was French and that's it.

I'm not proud of my national heritage. Mind you, this has nothing to do with my being German. Nobody should be proud of national heritage in these times.
Nations are useless in an ideal society, which, interestingly brings us back to the Zombie apocalypse.
