I prefer Smarties to M&M's, mainly because I prefer the milk chocolate in Smarties to the chocolate in M&M's. I also prefer the flavour of the candy shell, and they just feel better melting in my mouth than M&M's do. Although, M&M's do have those humourous characters.

Hmmm...you must have different smarties deep within the sanctuary than we have in Indy. The smarties I know are like little sweettarts that are more sweet than tart. No chocolate involved. Plus you usually only see them around Halloween. Guess I vote random.

I'm not sure if Smarties exist in the States. They were made by a Canadian Company that eventually got purchase by Nestle. Smarties are very similar to M&Ms, candy coated chocolate about ½" in diameter 1/8" thick, they don't have an M on them of course, and are filled with Milk Chocolate rather than Rich Chocolate.

It sounds similar to Hershey's 'Candy Coated Chocolates' that you can usually find around Christmas time, in a candy cane tube holder. If those are the same, then my vote is M&M's hand's down.

I know all about those candy coated chocolates in the canes and such. Between those and M&Ms, I agree, M&Ms all around. But Smarties taste so much better.

I told my roommate you are sending me chocolate smarties. My roommate says:

"There's no such thing as chocolate smarties. Canada is not even a real country."

Remember this is my roommate speaking. Please don't lace my candy with anthrax or something of the like!
