Pancho wrote:That’s exactly right Davane. The quote by Nietzsche sums up very well what has become of the left wing in current year. They have become the racists and the sexists and the bigots that they think they are fighting. That’s not to say that there isn’t a far right extremist problem as well, of course there is, but that the left wing have at this particular moment surpassed them in terms of the level of threat to classical liberal values and a sane society.

This is what gets me though, because none of that "far-left" behaviour is actually far left, because liberalism itself is a left-wing ideology. Without liberalism and choice, you cannot BE far-left. You are just far-right in a different colour.

The problem is that this hasn't been happening in the past year - it's been happening over the past four or five decades, and in the even longer term, as it's your classic "divide and conquer" strategy against any attempt at unification, before it threatens any actual power.

Rich people telling poor people what to fear, so they can fear everything other than the rich people who are busy telling them what to fear. Rich people have the majority of privilege, and they fear losing that privilege, so what better way do divert attention away from them by telling poor people that rich people's privilege is because they are white, or black, or gay, or whatever, so poor people end up fighting each other rather than keeping the focus on the simple fact that privilege largely comes from being rich.

Look at this community, for example. People are fighting each other over bullshit politics, because people have been told to fear such bullshit politics, rather than unite over what should be important to this community - whether or not NuHQ is going to be a good game or not.

Ultimately, if Critical Race Theory is going to make HQ a good game, then I'm all for it - except, it won't, because Critical Race Theory itself is deeply flawed.

An actual Critical Theory about Race, on the other hand, will make HQ a good game, as being critical about race as part of identity allows for important insights into culture, conflict, and storytelling, all of which can be important to good gameplay and good worldbuilding...

Not sorry to inform you, and everyone else here, that GW is over. HASBRO will not and cannot use that IP in the new game, and GW influence will have no part in it.

New people finding Ye Olde Inn form the enw game won't care, and oly see GW as historical reference. you and everyone else that love it will be inundated with people that don't care. And they, liek myself, don't have to care about the old world lore from GW, as it will not be a part of their game, as it is not a part of my game.

there is 14 quests in HQ, more if you buy expansions, and at no time is GW intrinsically a part of any of it beyond that. Note even Fimir are replaced in the new version with Abominations, and chaos replaced with dread. That should signal something to you whether you like it or not. People will be able to add in GW lore should they want, but will not be required to, and Ye Olde Inn had better be prepared for people form this new game coming to the website that just don't care about GW IP.

White Dwarf will not be printing more quests for it, no GW minis will be able to be added to replace or add to your game components.

GW and HQ are no longer a thing. For what there was of it, is just "Oh that's neat" sort of trivia to myself having played the game for 30-ish years, and to new people brought in by the new HASBRO version, they re even less likely to care about GW IP at all.

Those are just facts. Enjoy your "old world" of WFB all you want. I dont have to. My house, my table, my game; not yours.

Now I will be leaving this thread that i did not create, did not condone the creation of, and did not want as its own thread, but was forced upon me, and all abuse therein for its creation. I will be found in the only place around here that really interests me, the original "BIG THREAD" where i posted the new info from and about HASBRO's HeroQuest game, as there is no such thing currently as Avalon Hill, and it is a HASBRO Pulse Labs production, thus I will discuss HASBRO and HQ in that thread.

Ignore the abuse, Shadzar. It's not worth it. For my part, I have never intended any abuse towards you. I apologise if you felt that I was intending to abuse you in any way.

Yes, GW is a point of historical record, and I think preserving that record is important, which is why I support sites like Ye Olde Inn.

It is true when you say that a lot of new players from NuHQ probably won't care about about GW. I find that sad, because a game's history is important to me, and I don't think it should be forgotten.

In terms of CRT, I really don't care, because most of this really misses the point.

In real life, I believe in multicultural diversity, because I believe history needs to be preserved so we can both learn from our mistakes and continue to grow towards the future. I don't really care what history that is - Black History, White History, British History, US History, because ALL History is important, and makes for great inspiration for storytelling. I don't want an homogenous white bland global culture, because that would be boring.

In my games, well, these are worlds created by various minds, which should be preserved, with various canons. But ever game is unique, and I wouldn't dream of telling anyone what they should or shouldn't play at their table. The creativity comes from the unique combinations of individuals at that table, and the unique definitions of the worlds and games within which they play. Being fully narrative, or just four plastic miniatures on a board are just as much part of those worlds and games. There's no limit to individual imagination, and we shouldn't be trying to limit it.

If being woke is having an awareness of other cultures, then that's cool. I am all for it, and ways in which people can understand and that diversity. But if being woke is all about limiting what we can experience and talk about, then it's missing the point completely. It's almost ironic how so many woke people are still so blind, and I don't have any time with that.

Once again, Shadzar, I want to say that I never intended any abuse towards you, and I apologise if you felt in any way that I was intending to abuse you.

While trying to force one's playstyle on another is insulting at worst, and foolish at best, I was addressing the GTFO, and being blamed for creating this thread in the first plcae, when it was a moderator that did so and not me, yet one of the members with "seniority" around here was allowed to continue to belittle me for creating a thread in which i did not create and was told to flat out GTFO of Ye Olde Inn, or to stay in one specific thread and not create new ones anywhere on Ye Olde Inn. Again, i did not create this thread a moderator did using the built in tools, and still refuses to publicly say as much in response in this stuff to continue to make me look stupid. (Yes I know how phbb works, and did work on code for it for many websites and can modify it extensively beyond what Ye Olde Inn has that ould offer more with phpbb1 than phbb3 offers out of the box, so know the first post here has indicators saying it was split)

Image

so this place is like many others, and does to welcome new people, as those users with seniority have special privileges to berate others and not follow the rules, while not knowing how the software works or bothering to read threads.

I called out the ones by name that would NOT be allowed at my gaming table, and apparently that was violation of "respect" for other users, because Ye Olde Inn declares i MUST allow any user online in my home, at my gaming table, etc.. and no, i don't, and no damn person online has any right to dictate those terms to me. On the contrary where i live there is a law that allows me to shoot first and ask questions later when someone tries to force their way into my home, and i will exercise that right within the law to the fullest. So anyone here that thinks they can force their way into my home or game better learn what REAL world respect means. I don't take kindly to threats of people thinking they have a right to my home, family, property.

So Enjoy Ye Olde Inn, enjoy GW IP in your game if you wish. For me, it is 4 little red figures trying to kill the other colors of figures on the map to murder-hobo, and that is all HQ will be a game with few diminishing returns, so long as you can continue to make your own quests on the 19*21 board with the supplied 71-ish minis, and X number of tiles in "near infinite" combinations, needing nothing more than that or adding anything anyone else choose to that limitlessness.

If you really want this addressed in public, I will go ahead and do so now. The topic was split because the conversation starting at the video was based on Hasbro in general, not on HeroQuest. The original topic subject is the new HeroQuest version that is being released while your posted video and most of the discussion that followed was based on CRT with HeroQuest being a side subject. Hence, a new topic was made and the resulting posts were moved to that topic. Daedalus even made a post saying it was split in the original thread.

Daedalus wrote:I recently split the topic. All posts related primarily to the discussion of Hasbro or Wizards of the Coast rather than the Avalon Hill HeroQuest can be found in the Lobby at the newly titled topic, Hasbro.

Which contradicts your comment:
Shadzar wrote:Again, i did not create this thread a moderator did using the built in tools, and still refuses to publicly say as much in response in this stuff to continue to make me look stupid.

Shadzar wrote:I called out the ones by name that would NOT be allowed at my gaming table, and apparently that was violation of "respect" for other users, because Ye Olde Inn declares i MUST allow any user online in my home, at my gaming table, etc.. and no, i don't, and no damn person online has any right to dictate those terms to me.

No, Ye Olde Inn does not believe you must allow anyone in your games. Nobody here forces anyone to play a certain way, with the exception of those that play the game using the game rooms where people are free to play with agreed-upon rules. The violation of respect was in the following:
Shadzar wrote:Wrong country. Stalin is dead, go worship him elsewhere. Adolf is dead, worship him elsewhere. Maybe you would enjoy joining the CCP?

And in the same post, you followed this up with:
Shadzar wrote:You say racism is dead, then stop being racist. Stop telling black people they have no value unless a white person gives it to them. Stop trying to dehumanize blacks to make yourself feel better so you can come in as the White Savior, CynthiaLee. No, before you ask, i am not black, I am Cherokee. You know the people for 600 years the worlds largest genocide was committed on so their land could be taken from them and shipped off elsewhere. Talk about racism, AFTER you rectify that crime.

This is where you directly accuse a "long standing Inn member" whom you have never met of being a racist. Furthermore, she has no reason to rectify anything she was not a part of any more than you do, yet you are accusing her of being responsible for events that happened long before she was born.

In a later post, you followed up with the following:
Shadzar wrote:People are sick and tired of you holy-than-thou people thinking you can DEMAND how people use their tangible personal property to appease to you nobodies that they would otherwise not interact with in the real world.

Which again, violates the rules of respect at the Inn. So if you can explain how the above comments don't violate the rules of respect, you are welcome to PM me with those defenses and the moderators can discuss them.

I had made a post in this exact thread that the conversations needed to remain civil, and yet you disregarded the warning and repeatedly attacked other Inn members. Nobody in this discussion told you how to play your game, which seems to be a point of contention with you. Torilen told you that you could take your rules and leave the Inn if you didn't like things here. There is no disrespect in that - he presented you with an option. At no point did he attack you personally, did he suggest that you have sympathetic values that mirror that of the Nazi party, did he outright call you a racist, or flat out call you a nobody. Nor did he (or anybody else) ever suggest that you created this topic. In fact, he implored you to stop stirring up trouble. Those that violated the rules received warnings. Those that did not received no warnings. One of the nice things about the Inn is that conversations rarely sink to the depths they do on other media platforms and we intend to keep it that way.

Yes, she has on multiple occasions.

just in this thread even.

I said my peace and left this alone, but not now.

You guys crying you see 'woke' in every corner are the ones ruining HeroQuest....Not those of us who see society must change and racism is evil. Which should not even be political. We fought a civil war over this and the racists lost. You don't get a redo, society will change and your grandchildren will be civil people who disdain racists. Suck it up buttercup.

Myself I welcome an Orc Bard and cannon can go suck a lemmon.

and this was not the first time or thread, but the Orc Bard thread, the NEW HQ BIG THREAD, etc.

so chew on that. it seems calling people racist multiple times is either
A) not against the rules.
B) only against the rules for new users.

goodbye, have your cesspool of gaming bigotry and racism where you and other here think viewing black people as orcs is ok, and not racist, and calling a black man like David Johnson a racist for not appreciating being told that all people o a certain skin color are "X", which is what racism is.

There is no point going over the other stuff you said, as you have only proven that "long standing members" have more rights to abuse new users and violate any chosen rule by their favored moderator, by your very own post.

To be fair I haven’t actually seen any of the wokists say anything outright racist here. They haven’t actually said that orcs need to be changed because they resemble black people. I know a lot of woke leftists in the wider fantasy gaming world have said disgusting things like that, but the Ye Olde Inn SJWs have not gone there. And we should t pretend that they have. Treating everybody as an individual is what separates my world view from that of the commies.

My issue with the SJWs here and elsewhere is that they have acted in such a way as to demean the words “racist”, “sexist”, “ bigot” etc so that they lose their power. These should be amongst the most useful words and concepts that humans have, and yet the left have overplayed them for their own selfish ends (for petty power games or larping etc) that some people then stop taking them seriously. I’ve seen A LOT of that going on here, from you know who. It’s not racism, but it is almost as bad.

Anyway Shadzar, that’s twice now you’ve claimed you won’t be posting on this thread. I’m looking forward to more

Re: Hasbro

Postby Davane » July 26th, 2021, 6:56 am

Shadzar has every right to change his mind, and in all fairness, if I was subject to the same behaviour, I'd be fairly pissed too. It's easy to have respect when you aren't emotionally charged and feel under attack by others. I think that people should just give Shadzar a break and move on. Tolerance in a virtue that needs to apply to all sides here.

The problem with words like "racist," "sexist," and "bigot" isn't just that they've lost all meaning, but they have become thought terminating arguments, more designed to end a discussion than to actually mean something. The problem is that most people using these terms think they have a checkmate, when quite often, it's barely a check...

Social Justice is important, but it needs to be done in the real world, not in games. Changing games makes no real difference, because there will always be monsters, not just Orcs and Drow. All you end up doing is changing the monsters, not the role they play. So, less time should be spent on trying to change who the monsters are, and more on people not treating other people as monsters in the first place.

Whilst people here at Ye Olde Inn haven't gone there, the fact that Hasbro is doing the remake, and that they HAVE gone there is still important. Unfortunately, I think that discussion has been done to death, and Hasbro couldn't give a rat's arse about what anyone here might think.

As for left vs. right, the biggest issue is that thanks to memories of the Cold War, the "left" has been seen as worse enemy than the fascist right. The problem is that communism was only left economically, because ALL authoritarian regimes are right wing, and it doesn't matter if it's fascism or communism. It's time we put this fact right, and put the idea that anyone proposing authoritarianism is in any way left to bed, and in doing so destroy the power of the right and their scaremongering.

It shouldn't be down to the right to say that ALL LIVES MATTER, so they can use it as a dog whistle designed to undermine the fact that BLACK LIVES MATTER. The left needs to reclaim these from the right, and start defending these principles so that when people say ALL LIVES MATTER, they mean ALL Lives. The left needs to stop snatching defeat from the jaws of victory against the right, abandoning people to be represented by the right.

But as important as the fight between left and right is, let's keep it out of our games. These are a mean of escape from many, and an enjoyable learning tool for others. If you want to explore ideology in games, go right ahead, but let's not put it in games in general. Historical games have most of that covered already, so it's probably better to play one of them instead if you have that itch to scratch. HQ is about killing monsters and exploring dungeons. Let's leave it that...

Wrong country. Stalin is dead, go worship him elsewhere. Adolf is dead, worship him elsewhere. Maybe you would enjoy joining the CCP?

Speaking of CCP, again, HQ as per the back of the box on EBGames is being wholly made in China. You know, where COVID came from, Where a religious group is used as slave labor, as well as child labor...

And to the one I missed earlier. I find it funny they commented "racist" towards the black man in the video, saying he did not appreciate being told he had no privilege. Really?
You say racism is dead, then stop being racist. Stop telling black people they have no value unless a white person gives it to them. Stop trying to dehumanize blacks to make yourself feel better so you can come in as the White Savior, CynthiaLee. No, before you ask, i am not black, I am Cherokee. Again, this is one primary problem with Shadzar's behavior. Because cornixt and cynthialee don't agree with him on his views of Hasbro (Shadzar's words here) based on a video that is essentially hearsay, they get compared to the Nazi party and cynthialee is called a racist. There is no tolerance for behavior such as this. Shadzar initiated the CRT conversation so he/she should have been able to handle discussing the content without lashing out whenever someone disagreed. Additionally, when Shadzar received the warning, he/she then came to this board and twisted facts to tell the story he/she wanted to tell. That is why I addressed the issue publicly and not in private. The warning Shadzar received in a PM was color-coded as it was here so that he/she knew exactly what the issue was (and there was a little more than what was listed here) and yet Shadzar chose to outright lie about why he/she received a warning. Again, there is no tolerance for this behavior.
