They have become the racists and the sexists and the bigots that they think they are fighting. That’s not to say that there isn’t a far right extremist problem as well, of course there is, but that the left wing have at this particular moment surpassed them in terms of the level of threat to classical liberal values and a sane society.
This is what gets me though, because none of that "far-left" behaviour is actually far left, because liberalism itself is a left-wing ideology. Without liberalism and choice, you cannot BE far-left. You are just far-right in a different colour.
The problem is that this hasn't been happening in the past year - it's been happening over the past four or five decades, and in the even longer term, as it's your classic "divide and conquer" strategy against any attempt at unification, before it threatens any actual power.
Rich people telling poor people what to fear, so they can fear everything other than the rich people who are busy telling them what to fear. Rich people have the majority of privilege, and they fear losing that privilege, so what better way do divert attention away from them by telling poor people that rich people's privilege is because they are white, or black, or gay, or whatever, so poor people end up fighting each other rather than keeping the focus on the simple fact that privilege largely comes from being rich.
Look at this community, for example. People are fighting each other over bullshit politics, because people have been told to fear such bullshit politics, rather than unite over what should be important to this community - whether or not NuHQ is going to be a good game or not.
Ultimately, if Critical Race Theory is going to make HQ a good game, then I'm all for it - except, it won't, because Critical Race Theory itself is deeply flawed.
An actual Critical Theory about Race, on the other hand, will make HQ a good game, as being critical about race as part of identity allows for important insights into culture, conflict, and storytelling, all of which can be important to good gameplay and good worldbuilding...
