For that alone someone needs to kick KK in the balls! I had no idea who was and I do a search for that name, now I feel like some kindergartner with autism that's trying to paint...

I had a game where all the non-furniture minis were painted. Felt good that I was able to do it too. If it's something you enjoy and you can afford it then go for it.

My paints were initially Craftsmart brand from Michael's (Hobby store) and real cheap synthetic brushes that didn't last. The paint was hard for me to get coverage with and the brushes didn't last at all. I then bought some Model Color and Reaper paints and found they covered a lot better. Picked a slightly better pack of synthetic brushes along with some brush cleaner that has helped me keep them going strong. I may get some better brushes if/when my current ones wear out or I feel I can't progress with them. HQ minis I really like as they don't have too much detail and still look good neatly painted.

To keep it simple the extra bit I spent on my supplies to me was worth it.

i get what knight crawler is trying to say.
so i look at it in this manner....once everyone believed the world was flat. and when someone suggested it wasnt flat. people ridiculed him kicked him in the balls then killed him...or something like that. but guess what?
He was right!!

a good tradesman has good tools. but a good tradesman also has tips and tricks up his sleeve where good tools are'nt always needed.
in this case good paints and good brushes will carry you much much further than using poor quality ones. ask any quality painter and most will say...' you dont need them...but get some anyways'
but at the same time everything has its uses.
i have shitty acrylic paints for painting things like scenery. and i also have cheapo brushes that i use for others tasks. all in all i have about 30/40 brushes all of varying quality but my main brushes are not cheap brushes.

James Wappel doesn't use high quality brushes. He uses size 8(!) craft brushes for his shaded basecoat technique, always one brush for I daresay not more than 3, 4 figures, then the next brush. The used brushes that don't hold the tip anymore are put in an order of quality and used for different not so delicate painting steps. The new fine-tipped one he still (!) uses up to the highest highlighting steps. Then he shades and glazes with very thin, long-bristled, but still cheap liner brushes. Then he touches up with humungous brushes again.
He is an absoulte exception and you're a very happy painter if you can paint like him.
Still, his cost for brushes is probably way higher than that of ben Komets who probably goes through one size 1 W&N with 50 minis.
You will need 20 50cent brushes for every 10buck brush provided you keep the quality of your result/technique/blending.
It's like with shoes as described by Terry Pratchett.

My wife and I managed to paint all the figures for A Touch of Evil and two expansions a couple of years back.

Nice try Daedalus! This topic has been derailed by professionals, legends even...

For me, I feel a sense of completion when I look at the board and every piece is painted. I suppose I do over-look the furniture, but even that will change when my Twisting Catacombs stuff arrives.

I still have the final Base Quest to run, and for that I'm working on a new Witch Lord. My son picked out the GW Wight King, and he's coming along fantastically. Quick link here http://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Vampire-Counts-Wight-King. He will be completed before we run that quest!

Personally I love love the look of fully painted miniatures and scenery. It really takes me back to being that kid in a model store looking at all the gorgeous models on display through the glass.

Having said that, it's not everyone's Hobby to yearn for that. I see plenty of people who come through my shop whose best hobby memory was "that time I rolled double 6's and killed a Bloodthirster!" or "We had a couple thousand models on the table at once!" To each their own, and as long as folks are having fun, it's all good.

My first time playing with fully painted armies was about 12 years ago. My brother and I, after collecting miniatures since we were 12 and 10 respectively, finally got to play a game of Warhammer 6th with fully painted armies on a fully painted table filled (Perhaps too filled) with painted terrain.

He paints professionally on the side and I run a hobby store now so we can both kick the tar out of what we used to paint, but it was so downright epic for us that I don't think either of us can remember who even won.

If folks do want to take their first foray into painting there are plenty of talented folks here who are more than happy to help! I can also answer questions or comments if anyone has them, painting has become a lifelong passion of mine and over the years I have helped hundreds of people get into painting (Even helped a few who went on to get Golden Demons, if folks still remember those :) )

I only played my first fully painted game of anything (it was 2nd ed 40K) only a couple of years ago.
It took me basically 20 years to get an army painted...as in I painted (horribly) a bit as a kid in the early 90's and then didn't paint (or game) again until about 5 years ago.
I'm not a snob, but I myself only like to field painted minis.

That's absolutely not a snobbish way to feel. Painting is as big a part of the hobby as playing. |_P

The thing I hat most is when only a couple of minis are painted. It shows that I actually DID start painting, but never made it further than this...

Around 1997 I saw Warhammer books and miniatures in the local toy store and picked up some army books. When I found out that the minis are not pre-painted, the books were only for reading. I never got into playing or collecting because the painting part was very off-putting. Warhammer army books were influence on my fantasy only. When I got into HQ as a hobby, it took you guys 3 years for me to even consider painting. Now I do and never look back.

That's so true, although on the positive side it can spur you on to finish the other ones at some point.

Two (nicely) fully painted armies facing off on a good looking table has always been the M.O. for me, that's the full experience.

I don't mind playing with an unpainted set in a aboard game.

But a half-painted set will drive me mad!
