Sidetracking isn't a problem in forums. Derailing is. I'm sorry if the conversation shifted but that came about normally.
cynthialee wrote:The problem becomes when marketing ceases to market to women and niche into a male only market. We don't see beer commercials aimed at women, because more men drink beer than women drink beer. So the assumption became societally that women do not drink beer, so marketing devises a marketing plan to sell more aggressively to men solely. Which feeds further into the women don't drink beer false meme. Yet if we look at the figures we find that women drink 25% of the beer.

Are 25% of the beer commercials aimed at women? No. Why? Because 'women don't drink beer'. But that is demonstrably false.
Marketing is run by a bunch of folks with outdated ideas that never were very good to begin with.
You don't seem to try and see things globally. Look at it from the other perspective. You are a company and you can pay for one poster ad in a prime location. Who do you try to attract in that ad? The majority of the people who buy your product. It's as simple as that. I'm sure you get it, but I can't understand what's your objection about it.

That seems way harsh and overly critical. I mean generally people are unimpressed by politicians, public workers etc. Never heard of someone who thinks marketers are not doing a good job. Sure, they are sneaky and shifty but they get the job done most of the time.
I am more often than not in the minority of the buyers for a certain product line. I've recently been wondering why the hell did GW made those new awful Sigmarite warrior figures that make me want to vomit more food than I can eat. But still, their research shows that people will like them more than some more fantasy-like classic warriors, so they went with it. Personally, I'd like them to fail and go bankrupt, but at the moment I can't call them on the double standard that they please people who like the futuristic feel and ignore people that like the classic fantasy feel. They can do whatever they want with their product and their marketing tactics.
I know that it is impossible to change each other's mind with a series of comments. These few words can't overturn a lifetime of forming a point of view on a matter. I'm only asking you to think about just how strong an accusation is when someone calls sexism on someone's tactics, or racism or something similar. The accuser generally gets away with it, but the accusation usually remains even if it is unfounded. The impression isn't easily forgotten.
