Halls of Durrag-Dol

Postby Phoenix » March 30th, 2009, 6:35 pm

What are your thought on how the Heroes begin the Quest: "Halls of Durrag-Dol"?

I don't see an entry way anywhere...

Personally I think I'm just going to add a door in one of the corners of the board.

Usually the Letters in the Notes are in the typical order in which the Heroes would travel. Taking that into account, I would place an iron door near the centre of the board to the top right corridor.

You'll also notice that there is no letter "K" on the board. I assume the room marked "L" corresponds to the notes for "K".

Just bought a copy of the WD mag. off e-bay. Lots of great stuff for a run of quests on this subject. How about that "sewer drain" hazard, page 20. Once again, Our Heroes are headed for the sh***. Watch this space.

Hmm, I'll have to go and check if I have that tile somewhere. I'm planning to run this quest right after RotWL. I have a scan of the quest, but can't remember if there's a special hazard tile in there.

Ken, being an Advanced Heroquest fan, was refering to the adventure for that game, The Trollslayer's Oath. It follows The Halls of Durrag-Dol. The adventure instructs to use the Chasm to represent the Sewer Drain and treat it as a pit trap. You can find the Chasm in your Advanced Heroquest game--its a tile about 6 inches long and 2 inches wide. It looks like dirty water is running between two openings at the bottom. As it's so big, you may wish to use some other tile that will fit on a Heroquest board better. It could fit in The Mine Shaft (D), but as the central room is wider, you'll need to add some corridors on either side of the Chasm. My opinion is it doesn't really fit in the dwarven halls too well. I'd just skip it and use the map as is, using the central room as the mine shaft.

The HQ map already has standard pit traps, anyway. If you don't mind the bother, you could easily adapt some of the AHQ text to one or more of the HQ pit traps. The sewer drain had rules for climbing down inside (maybe falling), using a rope, and jumping. It also had a dwarven helmet at the bottom, found with a search.
