Just Getting Back into HQ, and its Still Great!

I know this isn't an overly unique post, but I have a special place in my heart for HeroQuest (like many of you here!) from playing it as a kid with my dad and brother in the 90's. I've been sleeping on the re-release until recently my son is old enough to enjoy it so I picked up a copy and it has been an instant hit. He just wants to play it all the time and it couldn't make me happier. Love that kid and love this game!

That’s fantastic. My son is an adult now, but I’ve got great nephews and nieces that I hope to introduce it to. The more the merrier! |_P

I agree whole-heartedly, I played with a group of friends back in 1999-2001, then never touched the game again until I was recently asked if I'd like to play this "new game called HeroQuest", that isn't a new game I thought to myself I remember that game well!

We played and it was still awesome, which has lead me here, and keen to purchase my own copy for the first time, just need to decide which version to purchase and then press-gang some passers-by into a game
BlackJax HeroQuest Compendium
Line-of-Sight One Pager
Exploding Combat Dice
:blackshield: = "special skull" that counts as a "skull" but can be rolled again, once, counting as a normal "skull" if rolled again.
:skull: = "skull"
:whiteshield: = "shield" cancels out a skull (hero & monster)
Snake Eyes
If you roll :roll1: :roll1: on your movement roll then the evil wizard player may immediately place a Wandering Monster

Welcome back to HeroQuest! I have a full copy of HeroQuest from the 1990s but I also bought a copy of First Light.

- full retail box if you want a full inventory of miniatures and 3D furniture.
or
- First Light has only 4 hero minis and a dragon mini, all other minis and furniture are paper. Other differences are First Light has different quests and a unique double-side board.

Hasbro has made most rulebooks and questbooks available on their website if you wish to preview:
Base Game https://instructions.hasbro.com/en-ca/i ... s-rulebook
Keller's Keep https://instructions.hasbro.com/api/dow ... and-up.pdf
Return of the Witch Lord https://instructions.hasbro.com/api/dow ... and-up.pdf
Against the Ogre Horde https://instructions.hasbro.com/api/dow ... t-pack.pdf
Frozen Horror https://instructions.hasbro.com/api/dow ... uction.pdf
Mage of the Mirror https://instructions.hasbro.com/api/dow ... system.pdf
Prophecy of Telor https://instructions.hasbro.com/api/dow ... o-play.pdf
Spirit Queen's Torment https://instructions.hasbro.com/api/dow ... o-play.pdf
Rise of the Dread Moon https://instructions.hasbro.com/api/dow ... tem-14.pdf
Jungles of Delthrak https://instructions.hasbro.com/api/dow ... k-game.pdf
First Light https://instructions.hasbro.com/api/dow ... d-game.pdf

The download of modern versions can be slow and unreliable due to Hasbro's webservers, I prefer the older black and white scans:
Game rules https://www.hasbro.com/common/instruct/HeroQuest.pdf
Quest Book https://www.hasbro.com/common/instruct/ ... t_Book.pdf
Kellar's Keep https://www.hasbro.com/common/instruct/ ... stBook.pdf
Witch Lord https://www.hasbro.com/common/instruct/ ... t_Book.pdf
Frozen Horror https://www.hasbro.com/common/instruct/ ... horror.pdf
Mage of the Mirror https://www.hasbro.com/common/instruct/ ... mirror.pdf

Plenty of posters on this forum and other internet sites with information and more detailed opinions on base game boxes and expansions.
