Hello everyone,

I would like to introduce myself. I owned heroquest 20 years ago as a kid, but somehow lost my original copy. My brother recently found a game system for me and gave it to me for Christmas.

Now that it is cold outside and there is snow on the ground, board game season has arrived once again.

I was wondering about the expansion packs, and a search for those led me to this site. I've spent the last few hours furiously scavenging this site for all of the heroquest content that I've never been able to get my hands on until today. I did not even realize that getting the expansion contents this way was an option! Now that I've found all of these great art assets and game contents, I am printing like a maniac and blowing through ink cartridges like there's no tomorrow. I'm also tearing through my wife's art supplies for the perfect paper to use for card stock. (Experience has taught me well, and I was wise enough to get her permission prior to doing so!)

So, here is what I am really trying to say: Thank you very much to everyone who has contributed the art assets to this site for us to use. I'm pretty excited and amazed that there still exists a community for this game. I'm looking forward to delving back into the world of heroquest, and I hope I can explore it like never before with the ideas and contributions of this community. Once I buy more ink, of course...

Yeah, I believe that. I have found a few other sites that have quite a bit as well, but I'm finding myself favoring the guides (and other assets) I find here, just because they are of a higher visual quality.

Now I just wish 3D printers were more prevalent and were affordable to own and use, and I'd be on my way to 100% completion.

Well, about 3D printers after lots of years with HQ I suggest you to save your money and buy alternative miniatures from games workshop, paint them and have fun. Ogres, dark elves, wolves, monsters, you can find everything you need and more. In our group, I’ve the wizard from advanced HQ, the barbarian from warhammer quest, a thief from talisman(?), we have use bats, savage orcs, black orcs, chaos dwarves, big monsters, etc. Except orcs, we don’t use the original miniatures very often. But, if you feel more like a collector (and it’s not bad... I feel more like a player but also I have buy all the expansions) or you are fun of the old fashion miniatures then billdask could do excellent replicas.

But I’ve to say that the real game is the quests, not the minis. The minis are important, and it’s a good way to spend time for your hobby as you paint them, but the real thing is the quests, the interesting stories, the special events and the exploration.

I think I am drawn to the visual elements of this game because that is the initial "wow" factor that it presents. I also no longer have friends around that are into board games, so I have some convincing to do. I suspect that non-game players will respond better with things they can "see" (like minis and cards), rather than concepts they have to "remember" (like fleeting passages from the rule book). If I can be successful in wrangling a couple of friends (couples, hopefully) into board games, then I will be happy.

I hope I can get enough traction going with heroquest that I'll soon be on to buying/making minis, and running out of quests so I need to get more. I have to see if anyone will take the hook first, so to speak.

I think that may be the best and worst part about heroquest - you need lots of people to play it right.

With 3 players(one for morcar and two players with two heroes each) is enough to have an excellent experience. And as GM you can handle them very well. You should have in mind that with 5 players (or more), each player will have a different opinion and could make your work even harder. For example, before a final boss, the one will suggest to get in the room for the minions, the other will want to do spells, the other will want to lure him out of the room, etc, etc, etc.

The best way to do this, is to find two players and finish the basic system. After that, your group will be ready for more people.

I know there is a thread somewhere that we talk how to find players. My opinion is that you can find people if you leave a post with your phone on your local d&d or warhammer store, also I am sure that if you make a t-shirt with the HQ logo is a good first step.

Hi Patroclus. (I've been seeing your name around a lot today as I scour the forums for assets and resources. Thanks for your contributions.)

I can see how having multiple personalities could make things less successful in the game, definitely.

I have one disadvantage that makes playing games more difficult that I haven't mentioned. I have small kids. This means that having a night in is way easier than having a night out. Nights out require babysitters. I can kill two birds with one stone if I can recruit friends who also have small kids. If done properly, our kids can run around our kid-proofed house and play together while we adults play a board game. Hopefully I can get my wife to enjoy HQ, which would make things much easier. Of course, I can foresee the imminent danger of a kid getting his/her grubby little hands on a miniature and chewing on it. Or wine being spilled on the board. Oh, the hazards of parenthood.

I plan on playing games like this a lot with my kids once they get to the proper age, but they are just getting out of the "let's put it in my mouth" stage. So I will plan ahead and get all of the expansions in preparation for future family game nights.

I'm fairly certain there are others out there that can relate to what I am saying.
