Hello from a long time lurker

Postby garose74 » March 25th, 2015, 7:52 am

Hello all.

I thought I would introduce myself after lurking for a few years and having only recently signed up to the forum. I was lucky enough to own all of the Heroquest and Space Crusade games and expansions that was released in the UK. Unfortunately I was burgled about 20 years ago and all of HQ & SC (along with lots of other things) were taken. I have always collected things from my youth and my wife despairs at the amount of stuff I have so a raised eyebrow or two came my way when copies of the Original Heroquest game system, an incomplete Advanced Quests game, Kellars Keep (minus the figures) and a complete Return of the Witch Lord arrived all within a few weeks of each other.

Now I have posted this, I feel that I can start commenting on some of the posts.

Thanks for reading.

G.

Important question: will you be stripping the flash off your minis and painting them?
This dictates whether you're welcomed warmly or coolly.

I played the "Well if I have this ready I'll be able to play it with the kid when he's older and it's way better than him playing video games" card when I ordered some pieces up.

Still got the raised eyebrow...

I did have a go at painting some Warhammer 40k Figures when I was a teen. They didn't come out well so I would rather have unpainted figures than botched paint job figures.

Good call with the excuse. My nipper likes playing HQ with me. The problem we have is a lack of time on my part. We don't have a place where we can sit down and play without being in someone else's way. So leaving the board out mid quest so we can pick up when we are both free can be a pain.

Having a designated play area is not always viable, as a miniature wargamer at heart I know this only too well. However, there are some solutions. Have you tried taking a picture of the board before you pack up? For Warhammer we had to put measuring tapes in between units to be able to set them up relatively (Since it would never be perfect, but close enough to keep playing), but you wouldn't need to worry about that part for Heroquest! A top down shot and you could set that back up again in minutes.

Another option is having the quest book in a clear plastic sheet and black out the areas they haven't reached with a wax pencil when you have to pack up.

Hope it works for ya :D
