"Done" with Resin Printing [Updated]

Im thinking of avoiding 3D prints now, also wondering if resin casting is better? I am looking to to give it a try soon. I want the US Xpacks but they are very expensive so copies seem to be the way.

Cast resin breaks almost as easily as printed resin.

On the whole, they don't break if you don't drop them. People have whole armies of them without any issue.

It would be one thing if these were breaking only when I was traveling around with them or only when kids were handling them...

Yeah don't break your minis on purpose, I get that. I'm saying accidents happen. It's one thing if you have the file and your own printer to just whip up another one if something goes wrong. I'd rather invest in a piece that is a little stronger than that. The old plastic minis from the 90's don't shatter just from dropping on the floor (a white stress mark on a sword bit when it was crammed in the box wrong? sure). I'd rather have something that is at least that strong, no matter how pretty it might be, especially for the price people online charge for them.

The bendy plastic used in Reaper minis and the remake figures are tough. You can toss them off the roofs of buildings, stomp on them with boots, and they are salvageable in most cases (not true of ALL the pieces used in the remake... especially the furniture and some of the figures use a stiffer plastic that can be broken with force like that... while the reaper bones figures in the white plastic need a blade or sandpaper to do deliberate, permanent damage).

So yes, those who own vast resin armies that they use for play and treat their stuff with kid gloves and have no fumbles, I salute you. I'm not one of those people, so my ongoing relationship with resin print minis remains contentious. Just because only a percentage of my printed minis are breaking doesn't mean I'm happy about that.

I'm the type of person who uses my minis primarily for play, rather than display, so they sturdier the better. I find the resin prints that mimic the legacy minis tend to hold up the best (exception: the mercenaries, which have long bits that originally were meant to be detachable).
