Base Colors

Postby phoenixcinder » May 7th, 2019, 11:53 pm

I am building a case to hold all my minis and furniture.
I am curious what you feel is more common for mini bases. A darkish tone or a lighter tone?
I ask as I may change my mind on what I use for lining the bottom of the inside, my current choice may be too dark. I would like there to be some contrast between the bases of the minis and the color of the lining I choose.

thx :)

Personally, I've used different base colors based on the mini in question, instead of painting all those bases in the same color scheme. For instance, I have a mummy with a fairly red base, while my Orcs and Goblins may be based on brown, black or grey bases.

I guess I am not being helpful :P.

Are the minis going to be lying down? If that's the case then I actually have been color coding the bottom of the bases. White for Undead, Green for Greenskins, etc.

That still doesn't really help.

no they will be standing up. I wouldn't be able to fit them all lying down.

No matter the color, important is that they all have the same color. I made the error to change my base concept in the middle, so you have photos like this now:

It would be lots better if they were all the same.
From player's perspective, you're looking down on the heads and the bases all the time, you're not seeing the models from the side so often. So that's important.

Your case, in ideal case I would give it a dungeon look if you have lots of time. :D |_P

I agree with Anderas that it works better having your bases the same across your collection. I'm currently having to repaint all my minis to give them a consistent basing scheme. I've gone for a simple dark grey highlighted with lighter grey tones drybrushed on top (although I'm aiming for similarity I'm not too bothered if there is a bit of variation). My efforts are shown here viewtopic.php?f=56&t=4590 , but you could look at other threads on that board to see what your preferences are.

Lovely bases on that :elf: :barbarian: and :orc: by the way
