Remade Pewter Pieces

Postby Highlander » May 2nd, 2013, 1:23 pm

Hello, recently I have been toying with the idea of spin casting pewter. One of the ideas I have is to take all of the original plastic Heroquest pieces and recast them in pewter in the original size and maybe do another scaled up to about 25%-50% larger. The paper parts of the furniture would be redone so the whole piece is solid and carved instead of printed. I would try to keep them as true to the originals as possible. I am not sure about the legality (I would have to check this) but I also have an artist at my disposal who would be willing to remake the originals enough to call new pieces if need be. My question here is how much interest is there in something like this? It is a huge undertaking and very costly thing to start up, I figured I would test the waters here first and maybe someone has some insight or information relating to this they might share. Thanks for any replies! :D

Interest: certainly
Affordable: depends on manufacturing and shipping costs
Legality: debatable. Remakes that get sold might get sued by Hasbro, but goldenboy (may he rot in the bog of eternal stench) is selling resin recasts of all the rare minis, and he's still on eBay.

If you remake entire pieces of furniture, I hope you make the bookcases and cabinets 3D instead of a flat surface where the cardboard would be.

Not sure what the costs will end up. Spin casting can be very affordable if the demand is high enough so the pieces can be done in bulk. One problem I will run into is the rarer pieces, I will need either high quality casts/replicas or originals. I am not going to try and get rich off of it, so cost will be subject to demand. The hope is for this to support itself. Of course I will also be doing other original pieces as well. The spin casting will become more of a business for me but I always wanted pewter replicas so why not give others a chance to have them too.

The artist I am working with will be doing up the furniture, taking the 2D pictures and sculpting them into a 3D version. The bookcases will probably be the most difficult to create and cast, but they are doable.

I haven't seen any of this goldenboy stuff, I'll check it out. Sounds like he isn't well liked....

Why is he not so well liked?

Because he ha sa fake eBay ad with HQ and ALL expansions for sale for $10.000,- just to draw attention to his pricy recast figures, who aren't even the best quality.
He's a scam artist who makes money off of cheap recasts in my opinion.
