Saga uses a skills bassed system. The dice rolls are bassed on a dice pool system with D 20's. The focus of the game is high fantasy and telling a Saga.
The game assumes that players will be playing Heroes. The world is in a state of post apocalyptic destruction. A war of species waged for 700 years. The world is in such bad shape that even the Orks and Elves have abandoned their wars with each other and have banded togather with mankind.
From the book:
The War cost the planet uncounted billions of lives and was the direct cause of the extinction of a number of sentient races.
Entire continents are unsafe to live on, cites are mere shells and areas of the land are so damaged by magic weaponry that strange magic warps reality. Only recently have the various races crawled out of barbarianism and savagery. Small cities of Man have attracted the other races to the walls of fortified cities. Outposts of civilization are peppered across a land that is full of wild magic, lost cities, strange cults and fierce monsters.
To get the full flavor of Daroka, combine all the romantic imagery of the courts of King Arthur with the drab stark reality of a post apocalyptic society, add in a stifling caste system and the constant threat of a new war and that is about right. Beyond the walls of the cities of men and Elves, the world is savage and merciless.
We are just starting to get it togather and all that stuff.
Here is my wifes attempt at a blog about one of the Saga we have been playing.

So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.
