Rooftop Tiles Boardset

Postby sorcerersapprentice » November 29th, 2015, 6:56 am

Hi All. Been a while since I posted here but I have been working on an exciting new project to provide a massive detailed set of rooftop styled boards/mats for Assassins, Thieves, Rogues, Street Chases, an Rooftop action. My kickstarter was 62% funded with just over 60 hours to go I'm making a final push. These boards are compatible with most RPG's including Heroquest and feature a variety of city buildings, alleys, in assorted sizes so that mobility can be achieved on the ground and on the roof with ease. These boards are also double-sided with a night time scene on the reverse, so that day and night versions can be selected.
If this is something you're interested in seeing be made, now is your chance to add the last few hundred dollars needed to fund it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

More details can be found here:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ga ... p-tile-set

Also - I'll be making a complete replacement set of compatible pieces for all the officially produced expansion packs in 2016. Keep an eye open.

Cheers,
SA

Hey Chris,

There are a few good websites out there that give you some solid advice on doing a kickstarter. For one, you need to have backed at least a few other kickstarters. Preferably related to your hobby. A boardgame or an RPG or something. To show people you're active on KS too.
Then you need to show people more of your product. Use watermarks if you have to, but show the designs, what people are getting, pictures with models for size comparison, the material of the boards (thickness, cardboard).

But I have to be honest, and this is just my opinion, but I think that while your art is nice, it's just that: nice. It's not spectacular enough to draw in hoards of backers. People will see it and think: hmmm, I think I can find similar art for free to print myself on the net. There's lots of stuff on here that reminds me of your tiles too. An example of more or less "rooftop" design I really like is the Cadwallon: City of Thieves boardgame. I can imagine the thieves running over the roofs, entering windows to snatch stuff.
Obviously, that's just me, but look around a bit more, try to figure out what inspires people, and try to catch that. Lots of graphics, eyecatchers, draws in more people. Jaw-dropping art draws in people. People like colours, shiny stuff, take Super Dungeon Explore or Arcadia Quest for example. Well, anyway, good luck!!!

Hi Sjeng. Thanks for your comments man. In the beginning I was just trying to improve on the Paizo set which I found pretty bland. Some people really like the tiles, others aren't so sure, like yourself. A lot of the detail was intended to come through add-on tokens/tiles that can be laid down over the boards, as I've found this a tricky tightrope to walk ; put too much detail and people lament being unable to customize the decor themselves, leave it largely blank and they lament not enough detail... I will take what you've said on board and re-examine my focus to make these tiles more impressive next time I launch so it's more appealing/striking and less 'nice'. CHeers mate.

I think a bit more debris and random bits around the base of the houses and on the paths and it will be there! Like an old lost boot and litter.

Making those large maps of all you tiles together surely looks a lot more impressive :) Having such images will certainly help selling them.

Hi Guys, I've just gone live with the kickstarter campaign.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ga ... p-tile-set

Thanks for the suggestions and encouragement - I will be making trash/clutter tiles so that alleys may be blocked off, or added to the base of houses to represent a neat and tidy or overgrown and messy residence at the DM's discretion. This allows more customization per tile :)

Kind Regards,
SA

An artist must protect his creations. There will be a time when freebies are handed out to the communities that support me - right now I need funds and this is my attempt to obtain them. I hope you understand ;)

EDIT - I am flattered though. Thank you.

Fair enough. ;)

I'd love to see the buildings more spaced out by widening the areas between them to create a bigger map and a bit more room. That would look really good, especially for the nighttime one. I also think the buildings themselves would be better if they were bigger. :2cents:
