Yeah, I'm aware of this. I would have had to make up 3x3 plates using a 2x3 and a 1x3 plate each. As they are covered with the modelled surface, the split will not be visible - but of course, it means extra work to do. But my main aim is a good looking board, so I at least considered doing so.

To make that work, however, you would need Lego (plates, probably) underneath the 4x4 plates to fix the squares to each other for them to be able to hold the walls.

but it is the only way to keep the original board's layout with the same number of squares and walls staying neutral in terms of changing distances.

that's an idea - hadn't thought of this possibility before.
But still, there are several reasons I prefer my original design:
- Lego knobs/studs would have to be present at the surface to hold the wall. I do not want any knobs to remain visible.
- Thin walls are a good thing, HQ-wise, but these would be
too thin. I want to give the walls some structure.
- They would be not as easy to replace as walls of 1-knob-wide bricks. Easy replacing (to add doors in-game) was one of the main reasons to start with.

Great effort, yes, but certainly not Green stuff. Much to overpriced. Milliput perhaps. But probably I will make prototypes of Fimo or even kindergarten putty and cast the "overlays" in resin or plaster. If I ever do this at all, actually.
