Unfortunately, since I have some D&D dungeon master experience and have run many a modular gameboard, I sort of make up the room layouts as I go, and adjust to how well/poorly the heroes are doing in the quest.
As for plot, the heroes are venturing into the far west to a desert kingdom, in hopes of finding pieces of relics to open the tomb of an ancient demon. The monsters I'm using are minis from the d&d line, and consist of more demonic types like harpies, satyrs, fire elementals, xorns (look them up), rust monsters (those too), beholders, etc..
I also developed rules for unique weaponry and armor that have % chances to cast spells (sleep, fire of wrath, etc). And have redone the wizards spells extensively using these (

I have actually put many, many hours into modifying my HeroQuest campaign into something that plays almost like a completely different game. I know I need to post everything eventually... because I really am very proud of the work I've done. I'll get there eventually I promise.

In the meantime here is at least a quick shot of ONE of my boxes of minis I use for my campaigns. I have a couple more just like it. You'll see some familiar models mixed in there.
