I'd go with not dolls, but figures. Dolls get married and have babies with lots of talking. Figures eliminate other figures with lots of dice-rolling. That being said, I played with my niece back when she was 10, and man did she take off on making the dungeon. I'd say the furniture blurs the line.

I have no issues with the scenarios being viewed as grown men playing with dollies. But if that's the case, video games would be much the same thing, just lacking the physical elements of play.

And grown women do enjoy it too. There's just not as many willing to give it a chance.

I think it really depends on HOW you play the game. If you just use the figures and the board, and pretend you are the character,
fine...no big deal. If you come dressed up AS your character, and use funny voices and such...then yeah, that's grown men playing
with dollies.

Just my opinion. But hey...who cares...bring out the Gimlie accent and have at it.

it could be great if you could buy ustensiles for the figures, like hat, dress, new hairs, bear, suits...etc. In this way, you could definitly say that we're playing dollies ! Some also buy some dollhouses from dwarven forge

Hey - how about heroes with just clothes on - and they give you or sell the weapons and armor to place on them, like
you would for dollies. Then you could accessorize your hero with exactly the equipment you have, instead of having
some generic thing staring up at you from the board.

That would be fantastic.

I think you will find that the Great Man who started this thread, prefers them with their clothes off, one hand on hip-with a Margarita in the other

In the dark world board game, the heroes had exchangeable weapons (you really placed the sword's handle into the heroe's hands), and don't forget the Heroquest Men-at-arms, where you can exchange the weapons, too (together with the hands).
I once heard about a group of PnP-roleplayers who used Playmobil to visualize their heros, but was not satisfied with it. This was years ago, however, and the range of playmobil themes has increased a lot, including fantasy settings. I could imagine customizing playmobil figures to look more realistic (less toy-like), and then put the manifold available equipment on them. They are much to large of course to play on a Heroquest board. Lego minifigures? There's also much equipment available, but it doesn't look as good and it would also be difficult to apply more than one piece due to the small size.
