3D gameboard/quest areas

I have started to work on a new quest pack and a few of the quests would have to be played on a 3D board in order for some of the traps and monsters to function properly now this would add a few new game mechanics to the game and now that i have nothing better to do, seeing as how this http://www.yeoldeinn.com/hqforum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=744 was an epic fail. So what do you guys think do you like to use stuff like that and if you haven't used it would you like to?

Stuff like what? :?
You never told us what you were actually working on in that "epicly failed" thread.

Was it a 3D gameboard?
What do you mean by that?
Sculptured tiles like the ones HeroQuestFrance is collecting and posting photos of every now and then? But these do nothing in regard of game mechanics or the "proper funciton of traps and monsters".
Or perhaps rised and sunken areas, including rules for fighting uphill or downhill?
Or a real threedimensional game with different levels that really lie one atop of the other?
Something else?
And how would this be translated into the real word? Printable cardboard tiles to make paper models (papercraft)? Clay models? Would I have to buy casts from you?

Just tell us what you're talking about, then perhaps we could decide if we would "like to use stuff like that".

First of all: calm down and take a chill pill. I haven't had time to post the results of the project cause i have not been on here to do so cause i have a life OTHER then this.

Secondly: the thing that was an epic fail was a box if it wasn't clear enough from the disruption and before you ask why it was a fail i had a fire and burn my hand and yes the box got caught in the fire.

Lastly: the name of the topic is the new project, read it once or twice, but if you still can't figure out what it is i am now going to tell you in detail, here we go. 3D means three dimensional and a game board is a board in which you play a game on (Heroquest) and quest areas are areas in a quest in which certain events take place (rooms or an outdoor tile). now add that all up and you get a quest or an area of a quest that uses a three dimensional game board or room to expand on the play of the game to give you and the other players a better grasp on the current location of the quest or a part of the quest so that way instead of the players visualizing the environment in their mind they can physically see and touch it. Hope this helps and i hope it does cause my hand is starting to hurt so i will NOT be explaining it again. i now leave you with a cookie but seeing as how i can't give you a real cookie i leave you with the word, too share. COOKIE. :cookie:

Uh. Maybe a drawing would help, because I'm not getting it. I'm sure it would help other people, too.
As for your hand, you could always get an Aloe Vera plant, break a stem open, and put the internal goo on your skin, assuming it isn't broken.
It will cause a barrier to the air and it will help it heal alot faster.

I'm perfectly calm, just curious what you were talking about, so please forgive me asking some questions.
Thanks for clarifying the meaning of "3D" and "gameboard".
Indeed, there have been quite some 3D gameboards discussed in this forum*, so I would have liked to know the specifics about your approach.
There are several ways to implement 3D areas. Most versions use modelled tiles, cast in plaster or resin, which you would have to buy. I, for example, started a papercraft 3D version of the original baord (postponed at the moment for other projects) (screenshot), and of course would have been interested if you did something alike.
Aside from the physical 3D tiles, you seem to have in mind some house rules which translate the threedimensionality into game mechanics.

So again I'd like to ask what's it exactly you want to tell us.

Best regards

Bene

*some Examples:

PUT YOUR 3D GLASSES (not really "haptic" threedimensional, but there you go... scroll down to about the middle of the 1st page, there's a 3D (looking) dungeon tile)
Brick Quest (a very original approach for 3D dungeon gaming)
Some photos (Dwarven Forge dungeon minis)
A incoming surprise (dungeon minis by a new company, friend of HeroQuestFrance)
Check this french project (a Heroquestboard with walls)
Shelves to sell (bookshelves minis)
A 3D boardgame (well, the title say it all, now that you explained it to me - ever wondered what "3D" and "gameboard" would mean)
Some photos of what I use (Dwarven Forge again, HeroQuestFrance seems to like these)
Minotaur Temple (again...)
haunted Village (and again...)
Blocked Squares (standup walls instead of flat tiles)
Big Bene's Tiles (3D stairs tile by yours truly)
Fimo Dungeon (dungeon miniatures made by Gravaillon)

Please make sure that they can print out to correct scale. I'm having a bitch of a time fitting them...

Now, that's more useful information. Thanks.
And yes, knowing this, I would definitely like to use stuff like this.
Looking forward to the pictures, and thanx for the cookies!

they are to size but the folding part like i side is the pain, i fold it in one place but then when i go to fold the other side the first fold bends at a weird angle i have no clue as to how the paper crafters do it, but i have one small one done and the pics will be up within the week
