We set out to make a mod that is easy to access, highly modifiable and deep in its function for all people who loved HeroQuest. We started out with the mod prior to 2020, initially releasing it around 2016 and held strong for NEARLY 9 years and saw near instant success on the mod page and warm reception. We had over 180k people who visited our mod and 116k people have it as a permanent download. It was fee of charge, only barrier is getting Tabletop Simulator. I watched multiple streams of people playing the mod, I spoke to many people and have been happy to have contributed to the community on that side for many years. We eventually stopped developing the mod around 2021 when not only did I feel adding more HeroQuest would add to the bloat of the mod, but also when life commitments got in the way. I made sure to wrap it up in a nice bow and let the community do what they will with it, which resulted in spin-offs, addons, models and more throughout the Tabletop Simulator ecosystem. Our mod was filled with custom content found nowhere else and it inspired much more people to do the same which I am glad I had a hand in growing.
Unfortunately, it seems Hasbro has finally saw that ecosystem grow too much and has requested Steam to remove the mod going forward. We did figure it was only a matter of time ever since they released the new version of HeroQuest and we survived longer than we expected, I even rejected requests from fans of the mod to scan and import the models and assets from the new HeroQuest remake into our mod as we didn't want to get in the way of its success or step on any toes over at Hasbro as we primarily focussed on the legacy game system and community additions.
So as of the 16th of December 2024, the mod has been removed from Steam and will be deleted completely 29 days from today. Steam re-instated initially and tried to support us but the trademark complaint forced their hand. I believe since Tabletop Simulator is a game that is sold on steam and it can be argued that the inclusion of HeroQuest on the workshop could contribute to the sales of the game without supporting Hasbro is the primary reason for the takedown which until now had no action.
We rolled a 1
and the bunny rabbit dice
and that is that, we cannot dispute this going forward. Not complaining, not arguing it, business do what business does and they have to act to protect trademarks and copyrights else risk losing them, but I do feel a sense of sadness to some degree.
However I did want to come here to thank you all for having such a dedicated compilation of resources and a friendly and supporting community, without you guys we could not have had such a great 8+ years with this project!
I want to thank everyone that contributed like KlumsyK and the Python community, I want to thank YeOldeInn for being our primary resource in researching and developing the mod, I want to thank the people that streamed our mod, notably Foxy and Pede, I want to thank my team, Kelz, Emily, Aron, JJ, Sophie. It was an absolute honor to bring this all to life with everyone of you, you are a group worthy taking down the forces of Zargon (Or was it Morcar?) together with!
If you need the mod going forward and use Tabletop simulator, feel free to download on Googledrive the final backed up version HERE
or use the Tabletop Simulator backup tool if you already have it. It can be found on Nexus and can be used to download all the files needed to play going forward.
We also have a discord which will still be available and people will be more than willing to help. Come chat and set up game nights HERE
Again. Thank you all so much for your support over the years, keep this classic alive. You guys are legends!
