Playtrough all expansions, A/B/C teams?

Hi!

I'm on my way of playing all the expansions in order, using the companion app, solo. I'm in the middle of SQT, and I'm noticing a lot of duplicated artifacts, like the Talisman of Lore.

I'm playing only with the classic four heroes, altough I have all the mini expansion (cavaliers, rogues, monks, bard, druid, warlock). I'm asking: is it possible to create an A team and a B team to play trough the expansions respecting both the story and the quest difficulty (no new team in FH, for example).

For example, after the base game, Kellar's Keep and Propehcy of Telor, I think that Spirit Queen's Torment could have been a good start for a new team, maybe I'm wrong because of quest difficulty (I don't know, I'm using my full prepped heroes).

Maybe, the only thing the heroes could share is gold, so a new team starting an expansion can go to the armory and buy some gear.

What do you think? :)

Short answer: Your game, your rules!

Longer answer: Sometimes the expansion says "if you don't already have..." and other times it doesn't say, implying a duplicate of an artifact. I have right now a party of heroes who started from scratch playing Frozen Horror, and then moved on to Mage of the Mirror. Simultaneously I'm running a campaign with another party of heroes that started from scratch playing Rise of the Dread Moon (though controlled by some of the same players... we play most weekends with whoever happens to show up, but retain the character sheets of heroes previously used).

There is a small debate within the community over "lost" artifacts. The rulebook in the classic era said that because some artifacts are needed to complete a quest, Zargon should make allowances so a lost or stolen artifact be found as a special treasure early in the next quest. Some have taken this to mean ONLY required artifacts should be discoverable again, while others (like myself) take it to mean Artifacts are really never truly lost (though many are consumables and in a few very rare cases they can be destroyed). The idea to me that there might be more than one Elixir of Life out there, or that Borin had more than one set of his famous armor made is not earth-shattering to me. How rare and wonderful should artifacts be? That's up to you, but if you're trying to more or less experience the quests as written, then that's how it will be. If you skip the Game System of course you are going to miss out on a ton of artifacts that are only found there (or were, until those formerly exclusive Mythic quest books became available). It has been noted that many of the artifacts found in the other expansions don't have much special use outside of those packs (or are consumable) other than ones that boost a character's Body/Mind point total(s).

With Artifacts often never being truly forever lost, the question is, what to do with them? They can't be sold (unless you make up your own rule). You could always just have your hero "leave them at home" (put them in a museum?) if you don't want to take up space on your character sheet for something you don't need anymore.

Yeah, do whatever you want. I have been playing through everything solo on the app, and I have one of each type of hero in my group. I mix and match heroes between each quest pack to keep things interesting. My four classic heroes have hoarded all the artifacts so far, so all the duplucates in SQT will go to the newer heroes except the ones that say “unless you already have it”.

Some quests you could say happen at the same time. In my “story” while the king is riding to face Zargon, the main heroes were going after the Witch Lord, while my B Team played the online quest, New Beginnings to prevent another force flanking the king.

Similarly, I considered both KK and RotWL to happen at the same time, so the main party split, each half accompanied by the less experienced heroes that played New Beginnings.

So basically do whatever you want for your own version of the story.

You're right about "my game, my story, my rules", but I don't know how the story unfold in the expansions, the only spoiler I know is that in the "The return of the Witch Lord" the Witch Lord returns. It would be ugly to play a quest and then being told by the app "the heroes know this foe from a previous clash with it", and have played with other heroes, or starting with a new team a really difficulty expansion pack. Good insight about party with both experienced heroes and new ones!

I like to switch some Heroes between expansions and develop them, personally I haven't two groups but only one and mix veterans heroes with the newby ( most of the time with the Hero including in the exp I would play) for example: in PoT I'll use the Warlock and in AoH I'll use the Druid but also the Monk!
I think SQT is an alternative game system, so here yes I'm guessing to play with all four new heroes

Great alternatives! However, some of them look to me a bit OP, but their concept is good.

Wow, very good, thank you! And the artworks match very well with this remake of HeroQuest
