"Aw, fudge!!"

Do you ever fudge the rules?

I do. But not for cheating. Sometimes it's to challenge myself for being forgetful. I just can't keep track of everything 100% of the time.

For example, more than once I have forgotten to heal the party between quests, but instead of going ahead and doing so, I simply played on as if the heroes had no time to fully recover.

What are your own examples?

Sometimes my group finished a Quest but wanted to search for secret doors without all the tedium of movement rolls. Without intervening or undiscovered traps, the Zargon player simply pointed out any secret doors and allowed the next Hero player to place his figure there. Other Heroes could later follow suit. If there was an intervening trap the Hero was instead placed on that square and had to jump it or spring it. It was a good time saver.

Occasionally through my own fault I have forgotten to place a room that was very important to the quest, so I've modified the adventure between sessions (these days most of the quests we play take more than one session to finish anyway) so the room appears in a new location. It's more of an attempt to salvage the experience rather than somehow "cheat." (I'm trying to avoid "cheating" the players of the experience).

Then again other times these things can be simply avoided because the party goes the wrong way and some quests are open ended enough you miss things. Then I guess those are the breaks! (maybe next time they play that quest they'll find it... Rise of the Dread Moon for instance seems purposely designed so that things will be missed or have to be because of choices before the players and they may wish to play it again to see what would have happened the other way or ways).

Have you ever given Zargon a free lick because you stepped away from the game and forgot whose turn it was?
