I always thought the wizard on the GM screen was Zargon!

I've read a couple places that it's supposed to be Mentor, but he looks too evil to me!

Officially yes, but it was kind of vague how he could be the good guy back in 1990 for the NA edition, so for me he's "still Zargon."
That is how I imagine he looks, even if Mentor looks similar, like Gandalf and Saruman.

But who knows, maybe sometimes Zargon/Morcar/Grimdead looks like some wannabe Skeletor or a twisted crone type guy....

Also, just the fact that the wizard is pointing menacingly at you while surrounded by monsters out for your blood leads me to believe he's evil.
