Rumored Year of Expansions Leaked (7/18/23) via Reddit

And it was all true! Well, most of it! |_P

So as I mentioned on the Spirit Queen's Torment topic:

:!: 10/19/23 - Another store (this time in the UK) has confirmed what we long suspected... Against the Ogre Horde (which we thought was going to just be called "The Ogre Horde" quest pack; turns out this shorter title was ONLY for the Spanish version) is set for release on March 31st, 2024 (hope that's not a too early April Fool's joke! j/k) for about the price we'd expect for an expansion the size of MOTM/FH/ROTDM. Remember the older store leak said it was a "bigger" box (and due to the size of the original tiles, it would need to be this large unless they were folded or multi-part fitting together for the huge outdoor/pit of "dread" rooms). Check it out here. No official acknowledgement from AH on this yet, but we know... we know! |_P

8/7/23 - As if we didn't already know by now (posting this late after returning home from GenCon), Path of the Wandering Monk is set for Jan 15, 2024 and is already taking pre-orders as of a couple of days ago (It is a hero collection similar to Guardian Knight and Rogue but of course going to retail, not exclusive).

Kurgan wrote:Rumors, rumors, and more rumors... thanks to the guys on HeroQuestFans Discord for reporting this a few days ago! While we were in the midst of Rise of the Dread Moon mania with the spoilers and unboxings, I got a few posts that I neglected to really look at, and here we go...

https://www.reddit.com/r/HQhomebrew/comments/151pltn/confirmed_pre_orders_with_my_local_game_stoer/

Lord-Drucifer's post is filled with misspellings (sorry mate), but his information can be verified at least when it comes to the local CA store. If they posted false info it would be easy to confirm or deny it, though it seems they have removed the listing from their website, but that doesn't mean it's false necessarily just perhaps they got in trouble for posting it too early.

After Prophecy of Telor it was a foregone conclusion that the other Mythic sets would come out and the only other one that we got any hint might have trouble was Joe Mangianello's Crypt of Perpetual Darkness (I heard this from Encarmine but Amalgamash actually posted about it so I think it's okay to say that here, in theory if he signs off or whatever is required then it comes out too I imagine since people really wanted that dragon! and though that particular stretch goal was not met we still got it along with the alternate gargoyle that wasn't technically reached by haslab pledges back then!).

"Against the Ogre Horde" (EU remake that they have long hinted at) and something called "Path of the Wandering Monk" (for $23.99, a bit pricey for a mere Hero Collection if that's all it is, rather than a box KK/ROTWL size) are also coming out under the HeroQuest label, according to him. Could the latter be my dreamt of re-imagining of the Bard as a "reformed Orc" Cleric? I can dream...

Thanks to Virg who first posted it, also covertnerd (Lee), SteveRS2000, Malcadon, seekhashem and Blayze for talking it up. Anybody else have any other info before that page went down?

Edit: Isle of Games has the "404 error" missing link, not Viking Hobby.

I was planning to contact the store and confirm this info, but if anyone has any other info please post here! I'm certainly excited to finally get Against the Ogre Horde and see how they convert a previously EU only pack (wouldn't be too difficult for experienced quest writers like these who have already shown they are able to tinker with existing material as well as make brand new stuff that has appeal). Spirit Queen's Torment could use some tweaks but will be easier to visualize once we see what they do with Prophecy of Telor... those boxes are small enough they could still have room for some surprise extras and more golden opportunities to give us stretch goal Mythic-inspired pieces if they want to. Path of the Wandering Monk, wonder what that will be... ?

Edit: Thanks to Blayze for pointing me to the wayback machine that lets me view the POTWM page before it was taken down, not much to see there of course...

I did a youtube video covering the topic. Amalgamash has also shared his thoughts on it too. Check 'em out!

I think “Path of the wandering monk” would refer to a martial artist like Caine from Kung Fu. Maybe the character art will look a little bit like David Carradine. Probably have 5 or 6 Body Points and a set of Ki powers, and be centered around not using armor or weapons.

I am really excited about a polished up version of Against the Ogre Horde, hopefully with new artifacts and other items not found in the original release.

I just got off the phone with Viking Hobby and had a nice chat with the owner. She confirmed POT, SQT, ATOH and POTWM... said dates are iffy and can't give prices, but they do take "pre-orders" which just means they call you when it's available you can come into the store and pay at the same (it's like reserving a copy). Their website doesn't exist, they're strictly "low tech," these days... I learned the shop has been in business 47 years and the owner really wanted to be sure they got the new HeroQuest stuff in "no matter what." She apologized for being short of Rise of the Dread Moon too for anyone who is in the Sacramento area who was thinking of that!

Exciting stuff...

Isle of Games (Arizona) owner owner likes to talk, seemed very knowledgeable. he couldn't give prices but he did say Path of the Wandering Monk is expected January. He expected Prophecy of Telor, Spirit Queen's Torment first and Against the Ogre Horde after the POTWM. like the owner of Viking Hobby he seemed to think these were "smaller" boxes. But Viking Hobby seemed to think that ATOH at least was a "larger" box as far as expansions go, so that's interesting. They basically confirmed that the local game shops have to go through distributors and they are at the mercy of what Hasbro decides to do with the bigger retail stores, ordering, etc. Stuff was taken down in both cases because it was posted too early. Confirmed.

The $23.99 price point for Path of the Wandering Monk (for reference they also priced Rogue Heir of Elethorn at $24.99) is explained by a "store loyalty program" that takes the slightly above MSRP prices and lowers them, probably to about what you'd pay other places. So for all we know POTWM is a Hero Collection sized box after all, rather than a KK/ROTWL size box. We already know that Stephen Baker's Prophecy of Telor is equivalent to the size of KK/ROTWL, and if ATOH is a FH/MOTM sized box that could prove interesting for what it contains... after all, 8 Ogres and some tiles (and probably 2-5 doors and a double size "throne") don't take up THAT much room with the quest book. All of the "large" expansions thus far have had some bonus material to fill space in them for the price. This is my own speculation here. But back to confirmed info from these sources:

So, if he's right it goes like this: 1) Prophecy of Telor (no surprise). 2) Spirit Queen's Torment (logical), 3) Path of the Wandering Monk (JANUARY 2024). and 4) Against the Ogre Horde. So two more expansion releases this year?? |_P

I'm on both lists now so they'll call when things come in, but especially the second guy stressed the importance of buying locally. He really believes that's how gaming grows in your community. So there you go. :2cents:

Exciting news! Really looking forward to some AotOH action! Would be cool if the Ogre Champions or Lord were larger ala Frozen Horror or at least double based figs.

Thanks for doing all the leg work! You should be a reporter lol

Guerrilla reporting here. ;)

You might have a point there luca, if they make the Ogres BIGGER than the MOTM ones that might explain the bigger box, rather than other random odds and ends (or the older theory that maybe they'd squeeze the WOM set into that one as one giant expansion, which they could still do by the way, but maybe not if they had so many "giant" Ogres)!

AH has never been cheap on the amount or variety of minis so I'm optimistic for some huge ogres. MotM ogre is a cool sculpt but rather tiny in my opinion. He needs some bigger cousins. Or what about Ogre wizards or something? Lotsa possibilities. I'm also hoping they expand the quest book. I never played it but they only had like 5 quests right?

Oh what about some Ogre busting artifacts? That would be awesome

7 Quests. I would be shocked if there was no new content... I'm guessing Alchemist's Shop and Artifacts (spell scrolls?) and probably added monster cards for the four Ogre types at the very least.

ATOH was on top on my I want list so happy about that. Its true it lacks some content. 7 ogres, some tiles, the big throne and a ñairnornnew rooms. And some dread spells. It can be anocher KK sized expansion or they can add some extras here and there. There are orcs or goblins with bows or spears? Thungs like that, new dices...

I looked through the quest book and there are a number of instances in which orcs have spears (or halberds you could say) and crossbows, and some goblins with short bows. So having special versions of normal troops would be nice to have. They could even add in more dread warriors with alternate sculpts. There is the larger sized throne, and as mentioned they could throw in more dice or other goodies.
