40 quests, and only 5 days....

Postby therealshrek » November 29th, 2021, 11:19 pm

There was a post somewhere in regards to how fast someone can solo play through every Quest using the App. I did not use the app, but I used the rules for solo play from Advanced Heroquest. Since I had a nice 5day Holiday and nothing to do, I decided to find out.

I had already been playing every night after work since I got the new version of the main box, so in the previous couple weeks I had already been through the main quest book, and both Kellar's Keep and the Witch Lord. Putting me at 35 quest going into the weekend.

Starting Weds Night I dug into the Wizards of Morcar, that one kicked my butt, uses up resources and you dont get anything for your effort. Next was the Ogre Hoard, pretty much the same thing. A resource hog to survive with no real reward.

At that point I was down to the Elf and Barbarian quests and I remember quite well those are MEAN. Especially the solo barbarian. I mean really no defense vs Hugged to Death....!! ( House rule, use same rules to break Bear / Yeti Hugs as the strength check to move stone doors in Ogre Hoard. ) It works and its fair. For these I split my group: Dwarf with Barbarian on Barbarian Solo quest, and Wizard with the Elf for the Elf Solo quest. Trust me, they are hard enough quests that two characters is a good thing. Plus I was tired, so it was a nice break, haha. Anyway I then did a random quest for a treasure Map I found. And it was time to get serious. First the last 7 Barbarian Quests, and last but not least the last 7 Elf Quests.

That put me at a grand total of 75 at the end of the weekend. 40 in 5 Days, I thought that was pretty good :D For the record, NOT Done yet. I still have all 3 of the new quest books from the kickstarter, and the Uber Quest Dark Company to do. And we wont even talk about all the fan made quests from here....

Ok, writing all that made me almost as tired as playing that many games in 5 days, haha
So, Whos up to the challenge

Most impressive!

Since your memory is fresh, can you point the best quests you played? (specially for a standalone match for introducing the game to friends)

The expansions all built up a little bit, so doing them fairly in order of released is a good thing.
That makes the basic quest book the best place to start.
And if someone is playing solo, you definitely do not want them starting with the Barbarian or Elf Solo quests....

Generally speaking, in order: The Main Quest Boo,, then Kellar's Keep and Return of the Witch Lord (doesnt matter which 1st)
After that I would say the Wizards of Morcar is the next easiest to play, then against the Ogre Hoard, the Elf Quest Pack after that,
and then the Barbarian Quest Pack last. And of course if you have access to it, then the Dark Company Quest book after everything else.

And for those who got ahold of Advanced Heroquest from GW. It is the one with the random dungeon, solo rules, and conversions
from Hero Quest. Which means things can be translated backwards as well. SO if you wanted to play it, you could give the Shattered Amulet a go.
