New HeroQuest Website - Fan Quests - Hig Res Scans

Postby addemose » November 22nd, 2021, 3:58 am

Good day people. One month ago I released my new Website: https://heroquestadventures.com/ Some of you know it already but for you who don't, well, here it is :)

On this website I have collected as many fan made adventures I could get my hands on. Most of them comes from these forums but some I have found on other sites. With this site, I believe finding an adventure to play is now very easy. Sorting between "Difficulty" or "Number of players" also helps greatly if you want to find a specific type of adventure. Every adventure is also "remade" into nice looking booklets, you will know what I mean with "remade" if you download an adventure and check the files.

The website also hosts Super High Resolution scans of pretty much every original HeroQuest Merchandise.

I have tried to message all authors for their permission to host their Quests but a lot of them have not been online on these forums for many years. If you are the author of one or more adventure on my site and don't want it hosted, please let me know!

What a huge job!!
And thank you for assembing my questpack Serving the Empire, which I never had the time to. Now everyone can download it.
I would like to suggest to credit the original authors on the first page of each questbook, so wherever someone download it or if it will be found in 10 years on someone's hard disk, peple may know its origins.
Anyway, it's a pity artworks are lost with your remakes, in Loretome 25th... for example you didn't use the original cover, but at least there is the original version in the archive file.

My thought on this:

In IT, we have a mantra: Multiple redundant copies! Not just a backup, but many backups, and not all located in the same place. The more effort you put into your backup strategy, the more has to go wrong to lose a copy.

We didn't do that as a community for many reasons, and now some things are just gone. If you've managed to recover some, find some that nobody else had, and improve upon resources available here even at the Inn.. For that reason and a couple of others … well, you asked for permission, and I'm not personally bothering to do that anymore. :P It's not that I'm trying to take something that belong to them or anything—credit where do, link back to their site as long as their site's there to link back to, etc. But someday if that site goes down and the link goes nowhere, hey, we have that, here it is!

That's a far cry from the eBay parasites who scrape together every fan-made card for the game, gets sets printed up, and then sells them on eBay as if they were somehow either part of the game, an official expansion, or their own creation, for twice what they paid to have them printed in the first place. You shouldn't give those people your money if for no other reason than they're kind of being very vague about what they're selling in the hopes you're gullible enough to buy.

A more reasonable scenario: Someone here on the Inn or other site organizes a group buy of all those custom bits people have developed for the game. Some tiles, card decks, etc. A couple of people buy more sets than they intend to use. All get a good discount on what they buy because of the group order and quantity of parts produced.

The couple of folks who bought extra sets then sell them for a modest markup … say 10% to people who missed the group buy. They know what they're getting, where it came from (here!), that they could make their own card decs and tokens/tiles … but it'll probably cost them what the asking price is to do it from the same professional printer. But even if it were more than 10% more than the seller paid, the fact that the buyer knows the details kinda matters a lot in my opinion.

(Actually, if someone wants to undercut the parasites/scalpers, it'd make my day… In an ideal world, it would spoil theirs.)
<InSpectreRetro> All hail Zargon!!! Morcar only has 1BP.

There's a certain amount of annoyance though for those who are not selling their "original" creations, and then see somebody else selling those designs on ebay and making a bundle.

Some people misunderstand what we mean when we say "scalping" (it's a bit like how people misunderstand what certain economic systems are when you have things like social security or public roads). When I say "scalping" I don't mean re-selling a product you don't want or don't need. It refers to buying up a product to artificially limit the supply then sell at a markup, specifically targeting those looking for that sought after product. The old model are those unlicensed individuals who buy concert or sporting event tickets and then sell them in the parking lot before the event. It's a bit like "usuary"'s definition. What is "excessive"? Or gambling on sporting events that was recently legalized in various places? Not to get all political (that's verboten here), but I see it as the difference between being an enterprising individual in a capitalist system and a predatory jerk operating in a legal gray area (these things used to be or still are illegal in some jurisdictions because of the negative effects they tend to stir up). And if those people lose their "opportunity," I certainly won't shed any tears. I also blame the companies whose deliberate actions leave those "gaps" for such operators to prosper.

I would endorse the idea of putting authors on the cover. At least for any future publications, if it is not practical to implement retroactively.

This fine website seems to be down now. I could not access it for several days.
I hope that it is not gone forever. A well sorted resource, which I enjoyed very much.

Sadly, I asked the site owner and was told that that yes, it is gone indefinitely due to personal issues. Try the archive instead.

Pity, I wonder if someone offered to run it faithfully for him? Something similar gave birth to the very Inn itself long ago...

Are the tiles any better quality than we have here?
