Asking because I don't know.
What's the difference?

"Advanced Quest" was just a deluxe version of HeroQuest [HeroQuest: Advanced Edition or HeroQuest: Advanced Quest] released in Europe back in the day. So it was the "game system" plus a fold-out poster that had four game boards linked together (a really tough quest) and 12 (or maybe 14) extra red plastic miniatures representing Men-At-Arms (actually used as "Dark Warriors," bad guys in this campaign called "the Dark Company"). They're the same type of mercs with bolt on weapons as found in Wizards of Morcar (or as they were, in gray, in the Barbarian Quest pack).
It gets a little confusing because there is a completely different game called "Advanced HeroQuest" which was made by Gamesworkshop. It uses non-d6 dice, a modular dungeon and has the heroes fighting skaven. But "Advanced Quest" is just HeroQuest with a little extra content.

Hi, Advanced Quest Edition was released in 1992, only in some European countries. Its rules were exactly the same as 1990 European Edition of HeroQuest (known as the 2nd Edition, the first one was released in 1989). As Kurgan says, its only extras compared with the regular EU HeroQuest were The Dark Company long quest map and 12 men at arms red miniatures to represent the Dark Warriors. This edition also included some minor changes in furniture and doors plastic parts, but that was all.

Oh yeah, this was towards the end of the Heroquest reign and so some of the parts were a little less solid (cutting corners to save money perhaps) meaning the door bases were shorter and the undersides of things were more hollow, I kind of half remember people talking about that.
But Advanced HeroQuest is its own thing. It has more in common with the reboot/tribute game "Warhammer Quest" released five years later by Gamesworkshop.

I have a different opinion on AHQ:
it was Games Workshop attempt at creating an upgraded version of HeroQuest, adding a lot more statistics.
What it failed in, in my opinion, is they used a cover with the original heroes from the MB version not great as the Les Edwards masterpiece, put only skaven as monters; the questbooks had very few quests; a lot of tables; no cards for spells, equipment, treasures... it was a very poor product for me, they wanted people to expand the game buying a lot of theit miniatures to have a decent ser of monsters to play with. It didn't go retail worldwide.
What a pity, i guess it could have been super cool if they put in the 4 heres metal prototypes as the main characters of the game.

They expect you to paint the minis in AHQ too, since they were all off-white/gray, so it was definitely "advanced." As an NA player I never even knew the game (AHQ) existed until I started searching for HQ fan stuff online around '02. Granted, people tell me if you were a frequenter of hobby game shops you probably saw it in the imports section, but that wasn't me or any of my friends.
Apparently AHQ was given a recommended age of 14 due to "sharp objects" (vs. classic Hero Quest that was age 9 in the EU or 10 in the US to adult). I guess they had the same philosophy with the remake HQ.
"HeroQuest: Advanced Quest" is just HeroQuest with exclusive bonus material. Advanced HeroQuest is a new game set in the same fantasy setting with some similar looking characters. I know even less about the game called "Mighty Heroes" that apparently uses the same GamesWorkShop miniatures as AHQ.

Have you realized the HQ remake is +14 age? Interesting the age change... anybody knows why? Ah ok, could be the sharp objects too.

Some of those pieces (especially the Dragon) are really pointy. While several of the pieces are bendy, others are stiff and hard, almost like they froze or baked some of them before release. I have no idea how these things are made other than squirting hot plastic gunk into molds so feel free if you have any idea.
There are very fine details on the Remake figures like the fingers (TSR's Dragon Strike had the problem of being made out of the same type of plastic as HQ but having those tiny details so many broken off fingers/hands/etc). But the AHQ are standard plastic GWS (warhammer-esque) minis of the era, except instead of having built in squareish (squeezed hexagon) bases, they have tabs that slot into generic round bases (judging by pictures, I don't have AHQ and have never seen it in person).

Ok... AHQ miniatures plastic I think is similar to Warhammer Fantasy Battles 4th edition ones, even a little bit weaker (AHQ men at arms halberd breaks very easy but maybe because they are too thin)

Child safety laws. If you mark your product for 13 and under, you have to spend tens of thousands of USD or more to have your product tested in the EU, USA and elsewhere. (We were quoted $50k for a small card based boardgame with no plastic.) It also takes a fair amount of time, delaying your release. Mark it 14+ and that all goes away.
