After all, it can be a crapshoot in terms of getting stuff used online. Many HeroQuest sets are actually cobbled together from other used parts these days.
But the quest book leads one to believe you should have certain numbers of miniatures when the reality is different.
Here is what I see on the back page where you do the custom quest:
Book: 2 Fimirs
Reality: 3 Fimirs
Book: 8 goblins
Reality: 6 goblins
Book: 6 Orcs
Reality: 8 Orcs
Book: 20 doors
Reality: 21 doors
Book: 1 Bookcase
Reality: 2 Bookcases
(I didn't count the tiles, but there may be a few other minor discrepancies for all I know; and since spear traps have no tile there's really no limit to how many you can have... but go easy on the poor heroes, j/k). As kids we didn't think to save the sprues or boards that the cardboard pieces punched out of, those went straight into the trash (though I'm sure we have a few "door holes" floating around our parent's home).
The set I bought was missing a few, so I went on ebay to get more, and ended up getting extras of quite a few things. It all works out.
Kellar's Keep gives you the exact same number and distribution of green monster figures as the game system, while Return of the Witch Lord gives you basically double of each type of yellowish white undead figure you find in the base set.
I've seen used sets that forget to include the "knotched sword orc" (there's one of these in KK as well). A friend of mine got two sets of air and water spells but was missing a fire spell (and two treasure cards). So it happens. If you are just trying to play, you can print the missing ones, or just use slips of cardstock with the stuff written on it to keep the distributions.
That's about it, really. But if you're looking to get something "complete" it is helpful to check. I like how the Inn lists the stuff for the game system and the quest packs (the only thing it doesn't cover is how many mercs you're supposed to get with each expansion, but keep in mind those will be loose weapons and then the generic figures they plug into... you get far more weapons than men in that case, and the mercenary cards don't correspond to the exact number you can have in the game many of them are just spares/dupes).
