[POLL] are there more EUR or NA Heroquesters?

Postby lestodante » September 5th, 2019, 6:23 pm

I was just wondering if members here have European or North American version of HeroQuest and wich one they prefer to play.

Depends...
I prefer lots of the EU variant, but the monster stats from the US Variant.
I also came to like the quest book layout of the US variant more

So I am EUS.

I own both but the HQ I play is much more towards the N.A. version.

I own the European editions, but I prefer house-ruling a lot (based off of Slev's excellent Advanced Rules).

I own the NA version, but most of the rules are house rules.

I also own both of them but I've always played the European version wich I like more the Questbook and cards layout but the Chaos Spells and the monster stats of the American version are a great additions to the game (now converted, of course).
And obviously some Home rules are always applied.

I play it somewhere in the middle. I prefer the monster body points in the US as well as Chaos spell cards. However I prefer Traps and Secret Door searches as the same action. Some European Treasure and Equipment cards are also removed from the American version, which I've added to my group, so there's some give and take there.
Every now and then I find the European version contains something more creative and add that to play, or make my own little adjustments. But for the most part I think I lean closer to the North American version.

I only own the UK set and expansions, but have downloaded the US quest packs from the Inn, of course.

It might be the nostalgia talking, but I much prefer the look of UK over US; the cards with their dark brown edges and the quest booklet format is much more stylish in my opinion. However, I accept that these are quite superficial reasons; I have added the US monster stats and Chaos spells to my game, which is probably much a more meaningful change than the look of the game. I’m also a really big fan of the US expansions. I know that they need a bit of work on the part of the GM, but to be honest that’s true of the UK expansions too.

I’ve also house-tweaked the rules for equipment, treasure searching and traps, as well making good use of Evil Wizard cards.

I understand the American expansions ramped up the difficulty and the lack of playtesting makes it virtually impossible unless editing the rules.

But in the European expansions, the only thing wrong with Against the Ogre Horde is that body points don't recycle after each quest and playing Dominate in the Pit of Chaos.
I also found Wizards of Morcar too easy. Is it just me or does anybody else feel the same way?
