What's your favourite quest?

So whats your favourite individual quest?

It can be from the original game system, any of the quest pack expansions, any one-off quest, or one of your own homebrew quests.
If its homebrew, we're going to want details!

Mine is the pit of chaos in the ogre expansion; I can still remember the howls of laughter and the feeling of being oh so clever when I took control of my Dad's Barbarian using the Domination spell, and sent him for a quick dip in the hot lava .
Sounds pretty obvious now, but as a kid it felt like a moment of genius.

Crikey, that's a tough one. So many quests over so many years. I don't think I could even remember some of the classics my brother and I have played. From recent memory, Quest 6 'Gateway to the Chaos Realm' from the Heralds of Chaos questpack was a really exciting one. Having to traverse a long corridor into a room full of nasty monsters and with another nasty appearing every turn was a real challenge that required real teamwork and use of everyone's skills, items, spells etc. It was a fist punch moment when Baal'roth finally fell.

"Barak Tor - Barrow of the Witch-Lord".

The bitch lord crept after the heroes and cast "Dominate" on the Barbarian.
He and some undead killed one hero in the central room, the other two went through the northern door and then into the dead-end hallway, hoping for something good behind those doors.
They couldn't return (that's what those unopenable doors are for!) in time to take the other way, and the bitchlord blocked their way: death by horror and starvation.
He chose to stay there, making them unsuccessful by just being there, and in the meantime, the 1BP-BArbarian broke the spell and fought through the other undead
to the staircase, neglected by the Big Bad. A lich can hope for his minions to kill a 1 BP-mother****** dead, right?

Just imagine that in real life! It's a freakin' horror movie, but a good one!
That's how I remember it. I have posted a recap here, but I can't find it right now.
If it has different detail, then trust that one instead of this.

This quest could have panned out much more boring, but OH it didn't!
That is good quest-writing what with the corridor leading nowhere and you being trapped by a horrible lich you can't hurt.
Just awesome. And literally one body point winning the day...

I think I must have run this quest and variations on this quest more than any other.

Interesting to find this thread here today - I came online today specifically to ask a (slightly nuanced) version of the same question; Me and some friends have been holding semi-regular boardgames nights, and when I dropped into conversation that I owned HQ from way back, they were quite keen to give it a go next time.

Therefore, I'd be particularly interested to know what one quest would be best to introduce a couple of new (adult) players to the game. I have the original UK version of the game, plus KK and ROTWL, but stand-alone quests from other sources would be fine, too, as I have a selection of extra miniatures and the means to print extra tiles/cards if needed...

I would start at the beginning. "New" Heroes aren't skilled for tough Quests. The Maze or The Trial.

I agree that you should "start at the beginning", but there is at least one thread out there about why you should bypass "The trial". You should also play with North America monster body points!

For an intro, you could try Decipher's first three short quests for a gaming conference. Search for "Con of the Mountain".

Thanks for the input, but a bit late, as the games night happened last night. I actually opted for The Rescue of Sir Ragnar, as I wanted a relatively easy, standalone quest, but something with a more interesting goal than just "find your way out". I played standard UK rules, except for allowing both players and monsters to roll any shield colour in defense, as I didn't want the battles to be a walk in the park. It worked out really well in the end, with the heroes (They chose the Elf and Dwarf) exploring more or less the whole map before finding Ragnar, then the Dwarf dying right at the end whilst protecting him on the way out. The Elf just managed to get him out by the skin of his teeth, and everyone really enjoyed the experience.

The Rescue of Sir Ragnar is quite a tough quest for just two (basic) heroes, so the players did well to get him out alive.
It's a good quest, and one that some people seem to remember from playing years ago when they first got into HQ. There is an whole sub-forum here dedicated to expanding on the adventures of Sir Ragnar and his Men-at-arms (the chronicles of Sir Ragnar).

If you play more quests, let us know how you get on. I would continue with more of the quests from the original quest pack as most of them are interesting, and designed to ease new heroes into the game/beef them up a bit.

Plague of Zombies and Revenge of the Weather man are good stand alone quests, but both have lots of monsters and a fiendish Chaos sorcerer; the heroes won't be ready to take them on just yet.
