I found this on the Makerbot website. They aren't awesome copies, but they are getting better. Anyone else seen any good 3D printer copies f Hero Quest items?

I am VERY excited about this whole 3D printing technology. I believe within a year or so, there could be tons of bootleg items not only for HQ, but pretty much anything. I believe as time goes on, these things will be cheaper.

Yes my thought exactly. I understand they won't be 100% copy, but very close. Much cheaper than buying originals and better than casts.

Why is this called "Makerbot"? The Makerbot cannot print these in the quality shown in the posts.

The higher resolution stuff is for professional printers.

It is still way cheaper to buy your skeletons as part of the base set or return of the witch lord.

Even better, buy the GW vampire counts skeleton warriors. Try to print those for that price!

Lastly, the models will have a layered appearance and need to be cleaned up/smoothed out, with liquid green stuff for example. Lots of work. Best to do this once, for a master, then make casts. And there are some really nice casts here... Looking at you Bill Dask.
Has resigned from the forum and would delete his account if he could.

Agreed, but you can not deny the potential of this printing technology. Give it some time, it will be perfected and cheaper. These dice are pretty awesome and I was planning on getting a few in a month or so and post a review.

Just noticed this but I think the dice are made by our BigBene here on the forums. I could be wrong.

I PMed BigBene just now, so if it is the same person, I will aggravate him to do a review or I'll get some and try them out.

Re: Makerbot 3D Printer

Postby IvenBach » August 8th, 2015, 1:05 pm

I was able to print a few things out on a Makerbot while at my internship. The filament itself is layered on and while I haven't painted them, yet, can add to the texture of some prints. Think stone and walls, maybe even wood if done correctly. It isn't something that will entirely replace (re)-casts but if you want to print something out like a column and paint it then it's pretty handy. They are expensive even for a used one but they aren't limited to one thing. They used them all the time in the robotics lab to make custom parts and fabricate all kinds of odds and ends (bits and bobs for Brits I do believe). Once home I'll paint up the handfull of printed items and post them.

I agree buying a 3D printer to make your own Hero Quest items are currently very high. However the price for the originals Quest packs are going higher every year. For example an Elf quest packs on Ebay are in the $800 range. The cost to 3D print the figures will be going down every year, eventually it will cost less to 3D print original figures.
