Monster count

After tallying tiles while trying to make a new quest for the Staff of Sun Wukong, I decided to tally the monsters I currently have.

It is as follows:

24 Orcs: 6 with Flails, 5 with Cleavers, 4 archers, 6 with swords, with an Orc monk (or Wardancer), an Orc barbarian and the nocthed sword Orc (okay, maybe I only I think he is special.
1 Orc boss: Its a Warhammer Orc painted before I got it. Makes for a good boss miniature.
25 Goblins: 3 Chaos Goblins (2 axe, 1 spear), 2 Goblin Statues (or are they?), 8 with hand axes, 8 with short swords, 5 with daggers, 1 with crossbow, and a plain one I will make a shaman type.
12 Fimirs: 2 with Flails (took the axes for other things), 9 with axes, 1 Balefiend (removed axe, made a caster-type staff)
19 Skeletons: 5 reserved for good Necro, 2 archers, 12 normal.
12 Zombies: 1 reserved for good Necro, 2 with scythes, 9 normal.
12 Mummies: 2 reserved for good Necro, 10 normal.
8 Chaos Warriors: Have 1 set of wings and half a wing, to make Chaos Avatar (or Chaos Fury as per Count Mohawks Quest viewtopic.php?f=37&t=1947&start=10 )
1 Gargoyle: So need more of this miniature.
4 Chaos Sorcerers: 1 Necro (red skull between the horns, 2 shorter (150 degrees C is too high to manipulate, they shrink) 1 Normal. Wings would go well on a Chaos sorcerer as well.
1 Gorgon: Cannot remember which game system this was from, but put a base on it and have a card for it. Yet to put it in a quest. But yes, she does have a turn to stone ability. Mwahahahaha!

That is a nice list. Seeing how you have intention to put a Gorgon in one of your dungeons I humbly submit for your approval a magic item your heroes may need...

Converted to HeroQuest from my Table Top RPG item of the same name...

Oil of Un-Stoning {List~Potions, Oils, Elixirs and Unguents Item Price: 500Gold}
This mystic oil will dismiss the mystic effect of being turned to stone on one person or animal of human or smaller size who has been the victim of a Medusa Gaze, a Cockatrice Claw or a Gorgons Breath. The victim must be attended with the oil within 24 hours of the stoning attack. The oil is spread on the newly created statue to activate the magic. It will require 2 full actions to apply the oil. While applying the oil the hero may not move or take any actions. After the oil is applied the EWP rolls 4 combat dice. Each skull rolled indicates a round of play the hero must sit out of play as he is returning to life. If zero skulls are rolled the potion has failed and no further attempts to return this hero to life via this oil may be attempted.

Another item that would prevent an important personage from being effected by the Gorgon...

Father Caraways Talisman of Sacrifice
This talisman must be activated at the moment that a compatriot, superior, ward or ally is effected by a heinous spell or magical attack. The target of the magic attack is switched places with the talisman owner and the talisman owner takes the full brunt of the attack. The attacker and the targeted ally must be in line of sight of the talisman owner to be activated.

Hmmmm...may need ti whip up some cards for those.

The players can fight without looking at the Gorgon, but as you would expect they suffer a -Combat dice penalty to attack and defence for doing so.

From the card:

Start of each round, the Gorgon attacks with Stone Stare.
If a hero or monster is caught looking at the Gorgon, they
must roll a Combat dice for each Mind point. At least one
shield must be rolled or else they are turned to stone.
To fight the Gorgon without looking, reduce the number of
Combat dice by 2, to a minimum of 1.

I may change the Shields required, but have rolled zero shields from 6 dice on plenty of occasions.
But an item either in the quest, or given before the quest, to reverse the stone (or a spell combination such as Healing + Rockskin cast on the cursed player) effect.
Could also purchase Mirros or Mirror Shields, just like the old Clash of the Titans to aid in the battle.
But your items are also a definite chance.

I would have the rule be that on the first round of combat with this monster, the heroes must roll Mind Points and they avoid the gaze on a Black Skull, or require a roll of 2 white shields, one white shield is too easy, especially for the Wizard. The Wizard could roll the odds with his chances to not avoid the gaze and be pretty sure of rolling at least one white shield.
Then they can avoid the gaze and take the dice penalties next round without having to make the check to avoid gaze.

So you are using Greek Mythology Gorgon (Medusa) and not the DnD Gorgon (Metal Bull)... Funny how they both can turn people to stone.

in my humble opinion the DnD gorgon is more deadly [if only it was remotely scary]. I can think of multiple ways [in game] of not looking, but not breathing... now that is another story. :)

I agree! {Unless we are talking the Gorgon sisters.. aka Medusa, Stheno and Euryale. Then you're just outright doomed.} A by the book basic Medusa/Gorgon is rather timid compared to the Mythic level of the Greek gods version.

To be honest I figured it was the old D n D version.

But the Gorgon from old school AD&D is rather nasty. It has a bronze hide, breath weapon and like any bull a gore attack. That would translate to a rather stout monster in Hero Quest.
A decent enough HQ version might look like this I figure:
The Gorgon Bull
Attack-4
Defense-6
Body-6
Mind-1
Move-7
Special Stone Breath 3 times per dungeon. The Gorgon may breath a blast of mystic steam on a single target within 3 squares of the beast; this attack will turn the target into stone. To resist this magic roll combat dice for each point of Mind, the roll must net 2 White Shields or more to avoid the magic effects. Characters turned into stone are left on the spot they were turned to stone and may not be moved. If 24 hours passes before an antidote is utilized on a character turned to stone, the character will forever remain as a statue.

In mythology, Perseus cut the head and gave it to goddess Athena. And she put it in her shield (that’s why the shield of Athena has the medusa). You may do this and let a hero put the head on one of their shields and give him 1 charge per quest to turn a monster to stone with a failed check to mind (=not roll a black shield on a roll of dices equal to his mind points).
