Theft of Inn Images

http://www.rpgbooster.com/25-reasons-heroquest-was-awesome/

I ran across this article from a couple years ago and not only did they use the Treasure and Equipment .gifs from the inn without credit, they also hyped up the Gamezone fiasco (a simple enough mistake at the time) without later redacting their endorsement (an inexcusable offense)!

OK I'm done being a taddle-tale.

Ignoring the sleazy web etiquette, I agree with their 25 reasons HQ was the best board game of the 90's. :2cents:

Well, why not? They're not original artwork after all. I don't want to underestimate the work to scan them and to make the gifs, but you can hardly claim copyrights on what is basically a presentation of the work of others. They are just a very good presentation, and if I were to write an article on HQ and needed an image of the treasure cards, I would "steal" them, too. Perhaps a note where they got them would have been in place, but I don't see this as a major offense.

Where? I even did a text search for "gamezone"...

I agree with their reasons, although there are by no means complete...
Have a look ;)

The GIF images they're presenting, although originally from the Inn, are not hosted here, so they aren't stealing our bandwidth. That's good. The EU equipment GIF is also a link to the (out of date) EU game system page here. Links are also good. Anything that helps promote HeroQuest usually brings us new members and new discussions. In this case, I'm inclined to say it's all good.

Nice you were able to recognise them as Inn originals.

I agree. It's not a major offense, but the way to do it right is quoting as in an essay or something where you use text or other source material from someone else.
("Retracted from LINK, date"). Would have been nice, I would definitely do it. Then again, I have the writing training.

They hyped up the gamezone kickstarter (2 links), though didn't name the company.

I guess that "theft" was a harsh verb to use, considering Te Olde Inn does not own the art either, but someone put in the time to create those GIFS. The author's lack of citation and/or linking to borrowed content just irked me. They actually didn't link or promote the inn, which is why I think it's lazy. I'm sure no maliciousness was intended. Directing traffic this way would have been the thoughtful thing to do, more fans, more ideas, more discussions! :D

One of the main things keeping me from launching a project I am considering is all the citation it would require for borrowed images! I feel a little guilty for using that image on my norse shaman character card without giving due credit!

I know you guys don't like to read that,
But i am looking happily forward to the delivery of my HQ25 in April. I do not at all feel it was a fiasco, even with their beginner's failure about IP in the US not.
I will have a Hero Quest, but with beautiful models instead. Everything's fine. :)

I have a HeroQuest, too. With beautiful miniatures to boot. Proxied with minis from all kinds of manufacturers, every one of them beautiful and worthy of the best paintjob possible while still things to play with. I'm not here to bug you about your choice, just the argument doesn't count for me. That, and the beauty thing will be a matter of taste. I thoroughly hated the barbarian from GZ when he first blinded me.
Now this is not meant to be the umptieth argument against you, Anderas |_P - I'd wager you know all of what I've said against GZ - but for those who read your post and might need a little push to think it over, I want to put it into perspective, that's all.

:D

Where there's a will, there's a won't.

Yes i know you don't like it.
You had ten years for painting all your proxies. I start anew. I'd need an original box with the original rules; just to start exchanging the Models, furniture, play cards, rules, everything.

Or i need a box full of modern proxies plus rules from here. HQ25 is perfectly fitting my needs.

Yes, the HQ25 models are a matter of taste, of course, Models always are.

I complement my furniture with Zealot's furniture and my models with the Conan Kickstarter. That does mean, i will have 5 or 6 Barbarians with different equipment. This Kickstarter is pretty epic. :) When it ends today at 18:30, it will have beaten Zombicide.

What do you mean? I started this hobby in late 2011, and a masterplan seems to be standing since early 2014.
I've barely begun collecting (well, collecting actually is done for the official quest packs) and painting (progress, if you wanna call it that, in my own gallery thread).

Ok, that's fast :D At least for me. I move with the speed of a :zombie: as family, house and kid are taking the time away. :)
I was just estimating.
