EvilQuest

Anyone played EvilQuest? It's where you play as one of the monsters but with higher body points, running around the dungeon and killing innocent humans, elves, dwarfs, and stealing their stuff. It's essentially the same game but with the models reversed. Makes you realise the moral ambiguity present in any game - are you really rescuing Sir Ragnar or breaking him out of prison where he was convicted for crimes against Orcs? How much of the backstory is true or are you simply being manipulated by Morcar/Zargon?

No sane person sees themselves as a bad guy. Everybody’s the good guy from their own point of view. HQ and other fantasy games have very cardboard bad guys that don’t exist in real life, but it keeps it light. It’s not annoying like it is in Hollywood films.

Me and my friends did it sometimes when we were kids.
Of course there were only the heroes to act as "good" monsters, so we filled up with regular monsters as well.
I remember several of my friends had a couple of monsters painted red so they could be used as heroes :D

When my friend and I would collect toy lines back in the day, he would usually get the good guys (Autobots, He-man) and I would get the bad guys (Decepticons, Skeletor).

That's just awsome. When my cousin and I would collect toy lines back in the day, he would usually get the toy lines and I would get socks and books.

Postby The Road Warrior » November 14th, 2014, 4:53 am

I actually started writing a Quest Pack for the Chronicles of Sir Ragnar that uses this idea. 1 Quest pack, 4 Quests about the defence of an outpost/castle by Sir Ragnar. The players can either choose to play through the Quest Pack as the normal Chronicles Heroes and defend the castle or as a group of Champions of Chaos leading the attack. The objective of each quest changes depending on which group the players choose to play.

Here's a preview of the Chaos Warrior card I was working on.

Nope, never did that. When HQ was published, I was already twenty, having plenty of Pen and Paper Rpg under my belt (all people telling their biographies in this thread, so I can as well give away a bit of my own). I and my friends found HQ not very interesting to play, we bought it to use the minis in other games - expecially the furniture (practically the only fantasy mini furniture you could get back then). It was not until much later that I discovered HQ as a great game in it's own right, but then I didn't have the amount of free time I had in my youth, so we did not use our playtime for experimental escursions to the dark side.

But naturally, the idea came to my mind more than once, and I have thought of way to implement it, making plans in the back of my head for quests to post here at the inn.

My ideas would circle more around two teams - a team of (four?) heroes against an equally strong team of monsters, exploring the board from opposite corners. The problem would who sets up the rooms, as neither party knows the map.
What do you think about that concept? Or is it already too far away from the "Evil Quest"?
Have a look ;)
