Do you glue your ogres' arms?

Postby Maciste » February 16th, 2014, 12:49 pm

I'm currently trying to wrap my mind around painting my ogres and I've hit an interesting conundrum-- do you glue your ogres arms into position or do you leave them free to rotate?

It's sort of an interesting question because left to their own devices, the arms on the ogres have little gaps between the shoulder and the torso BUT gluing the arms into position is an act that cannot really be undone...which some may consider a sin when working with out of print models. So how have you managed it? Do you paint all of the bits of the ogre separately so that they can still rotate around or do you fix them in place for all time in a suitably dramatic pose?

All the Ogres' poses, however you twist and turn their arms, are dramatically stupid and stupidly dramatic both, so it really makes no difference if you glue them or not.
Also, if a mini is only collectible when pristine, then you cannot paint it as a consequence.
And another point to consider: if you fix the arms, do it right. Green stuff or some other plastic putty. Which is also changing the artist's sculpt and lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalaal...

If you paint them, glue them. The moment you decided to paint them is the moment you disregarded their collectible value anyway. That's just the way it is.

And like kk says, fix the gaps with greenstuff or something. Gaps are not the artist's choice, but merely a consequence of the model being so big it needs to be in parts.
I've glued, gapped, based and painted mine. No regrets.
