How Adopted will 25th Anniversary Be

I'm really wondering, at least around here, what the adoption rate of 25th anniversary will be. When writing new campaigns, modules, and house rules, will it be worthwhile to write them with the assumption that people will have the 25th, or should they only be written using the originals? A while back, I was put up a pole to get feedback on what kind of materials are of use to people, but with this new semi-official version of the game to work from in a year, it could change the game as far as mods go.

Some of the new things all in the base set:
Expanded Equipment
6 spells instead of 3 in each element
Drrakks replacing Fimirs
1 Wraith
1 Ogre
1 Orc Big Boss
1 Tentacle
Expanded Furniture
A built in campaign/advancement system

With the expanded stuff, there are 15 new characters though we know nothing of them, and anything from stretch goals.

Basically, these different items open up new things to use in quests without people having to bring in outside materials.

I had started a thread earlier today asking partially the same question (though it looks like it may have been deleted).

At least here, there doesn't seem to be very positive feelings towards it, for one reason or another. In terms of new fan material, I don't think this will really show up on the radar. Too many people have the original game (or personal remakes of it). Furthermore, the extremely volatile legal status of 25th means that we probably won't see it again after the KS campaign concludes. Although it has large backer support, it's basically going to be a special branch of the game all to itself.

That being said, it wouldn't be too hard to make things work with the new or old game (depending which way things go). It's possible though that 25th could include too many new things for people to bother making new material completely compatible with it.

Don't start new threads, you can discuss them all in the same topic. Besides, Sjeng is going to be mad

@ScooterinAB: It wasn't deleted, just moved to the original HQ25th thread ;)

Yes, I merged it, as it was basically the same discussion. This is a different matter however, so I'll leave it as it is.

If GZ is really so stupid as to change the layout of the board, then you'll need to change ALL your quests. The center tiles won't even fit on the new board. A fatal mistake in my opinion. Or simply ignore the new board, and use an old board with the new minis/furniture etc. But that's no different than having an original game with additional miniatures from GW/Mantic etc. So I really would not bother with adapting any material to this new bootleg version.

Thanks. I am following the main 25th thread, but I wanted to get a discussion specifically on figuring out if it will be worth considering in future mods. Whether to back or not definitely should be in the other conversation.

My guess would be that Gamezone changed things - like the board, and possibly the rules - to make sure that they're
game is the one you use. Just like Wizards of the coast - they made D&D 4th ed. SOOO different and so specific in
respect to the rules that people can't help but use THAT game and nothing else. If you look at all other editions of
D&D, that was not the case. Even though Classic, AD&D and 3.5 were quite different, the underlying ideas were all
the same and one could, at least in some capacity, mix and match things they liked from each version.

Maybe this is why they are including room tiles in the stretch goals. They would have to do five of them, or you could make your own.

to be honest I think they changed the board just to be sure they can't be sued for using the exact same as the original.

I remember a big case where a tetris-clone were sued.
One of the things that made it illegal was actually that the playing field were the same 10x20 blocks.
So copying the exact layout might actually be impossible?

That being said, I'm sorry it's not the same layout.
You can't play old quests with the new stuff and vice versa.

Also that mess in the middle looks idiotic. One thing you always need is a big room for a big battle.
Cutting the corners off isn't helping! Especially when four other rooms is ruined because of it.
IF they insisted on keeping the middle room like that, they should just remove that ridiculous single tile from the four rooms and just have some corridors with lots of space.

In regard to the OP.
I highly doubt HQ25 will replace anything in the HQ community.
But it also depend a lot on how compatible it is. If combat and general stats match those of HQ, then I could see stuff like spells, heroes and monsters being integrated.
But as it looks now, I think it will suffice to just create quests with the original HQ in mind.

The Board: EVERYBODY KNOWS THE SOLUTION WOULD HAVE BEEN TO MAKE THE OUTER CORRIDOR OR AT LEAST PART OF IT TWO SPACES WIDE.
That is the single most advantageous concept the entirety of the German forum has ever come up with, and it's freakin' brilliant; it adds to flexibility, tactics, quest possibilities (you can make a corridor where every now and again line-of-sight is (really) blocked, and most of all QUICKNESS AND FUN.
