Heroquest Lottery

I have an idea. A pretty cool one.

We create a lottery to be held once every year (or six months--or every three months). The ideal of the lottery would be to be able to give the winner a complete copy of Heroquest, or a Quest Pack.

>Where will we get these items? We will get them from us. To have your name entered into the lottery, you must pay a price of one game component.
>You may pay multiple components to have multiple chances to win.
>Every game piece is a valid entry--from the game board itself to a single-blocked-square tile.
>You must agree that once you mail-off your entry or entries, they will not be returned to you (unless your name is drawn as the winner).

>Optionally (though I advocate this), we can stipulate that game pieces need not actually be from Heroquest, but must be strongly similar to them. For example, someone could submit a barbarian miniature made by Reaper--because its a barbarian and the game system requires one. Like the many varied room designs on the board, miniature doors could be of many shapes or styles.
>Optionally, game components can only be fabrications if they are of equal quality or better. This includes items that are physical replicas made by you or any agency at your request--these items must be absolutely flawless.

>We will elect two people to act as a commissioners for Europe the United States; this will keep shipping costs lower.
>Commissioners may not have their names entered into the lottery.
>Commissioners will receive lottery entries and catalog them openly here on the forums at least once per week.
>Commissioners will have the power to reject any entry they determine to be unfit or unacceptable.
>The location of the winner will determine which commissioner will mail all entries to the other.
>Who pays the costs of final shipment of the assembled collection will be negotiated between commissioners and the winner.
>The commissioners get to keep any extra game components (split between them per their agreement) beyond what would be required to assemble the prize

So what happens if some one sends all the cards in and they are up to "par" they would have a 200 out of 350 chance of winning great concept but i see some major holes in the lottery aspect of it no offense. Plus i don't think a falling ceiling tile has the same value as a bloodthirster. there would have to be some serious figuring on this whole project .

There are only 66 cards, which is a very strong investment. Heroquest is not just a game with miniatures--they are even probably the easiest of the components to come by, second-hand.

The strongest reason to give, is to then also motivate others to do the same. This should be viewed as a game to be played for fun and a sense of community. For instance, if I were to enter a miniature, it would be well-painted. I would want a quality prize, therefore I would make a quality entry.

However, if someone wants to do the research to assess value to each individual piece, we could use that to create a ratio of type of entry:number of times your name is in the drawing.

How to actually do it: Don't know if it works.

I think that not many would be up to this.

1. Also, there are many differences between the NA and the EU components. It would have to be determined which combination of what we're collecting.
2. I think the hardest parts to come by are the rule and quest books... which I wouldn't even necessarily include, as replicas (printing them out) are the easiest to make yourself.
3. The most expensive to ship would be the board, which would therefore be the most valuable part be sent in.
4. I think, if anyone has to give away cards, it would quite probably be a whole set, or at least one or more complete decks. Cards would be covered pretty soon, with many redundant one remaining in the commissioner's hands. What I'm trying to say is, someone sends a deck of monster cards (noone needs those), then the second person sends in a complete set of cards, because getting rid of some wouldn't make sense at all. So, the first person's cards would be redundant. Thinking about this, of course they can then be included in the next round. Ah, well.
5. I can't compete with painted minis, but maybe some nice conversions, and a quite sizeable bag of damaged orcs and goblins that need new weapons, new bases, and green stuffed feet. (The bases have been sawed off). The value of stuff like that - if at all valid - would have to be determined.

All in all, pretty neat idea.
Major flaw for me personally: My collection is pretty much covered.
I would put in if I have any redundant stuff, but not for winning the prize, but just... you know.

Another flaw: I think most of us have a complete game system. What's the use of a second when some of us don't have a (complete) first?
I AM interested to help cover those with some of my stuff if I can.

Maybe there's also a chance for each of us to send in a list with missing parts, which anyone generous and interested can fill in... you know, structured component completion.

But, again, I'd be in giving components, but I'd be slightly ashamed to win another full game system when I already have one plus a Master Edition.
I already sell almost complete expansions because I have so much HQ stuff.

Yeah, I don't see this working either. I'm all for KK's suggestion of a listing of incomplete sets, that others might help to complete.

Happy to contribute, but have to echo posts above - if I have enough spares to donate some bits am I really going to want/need a second set?

Now if the community were to paint a complete set of HQ models between us then have a draw, that would be something very special!
