treasure or secret doors in pits

Postby torilen » September 9th, 2013, 5:45 pm

Has anyone does this? It says in the rules book, if I remember correctly, that a hero can search a pit
once in it. Has anyone created their own quests with a special treasure or secret door or such
in a pit?
I don't think this comes into play in any of the actual published quests, either, right? Was this something
they had hoped to incorporate in the future, perhaps?

I have a quest where a secret door is accessed via a pit trap.

A very interesting concept. Does it lead to a secret room chaotic, or is it the natural extension of the dungeon being played?

I'm going to tie it into a side quest. Maybe Sjeng's Into the Sewers quest. I'll have to actually read it to see if I could do that. You can always use a second HQ board and have a subterannean HQ built under the one they are currently searching!

The sewers were actually meant as a subterranean map to the town map that goes with it. Although the well in the center doesn't make sence then, but there is a staircase on the top left that connects both maps. The spiral stairway would be inside one of the buildings.

Are you sure he isn't just allowed to search WHILE he is in a trap?
Being able to actually search THE trap opens up to all kinds of madness. What if you draw another trap or a wandering monster?

Can anyone confirm this rule actually exists?

Anyways if you want to use it in a quest I think you'd have to give the players some kind of hint. I would have been stuck forever if I had to guess the secret door was down a pit trap.

You have to find it to pass the Quest. Suprisingly, both times I've ran it, it was found.

Yes, you may search a pit trap for treasure, by the rules. If you play where you place a pit trap tile down for a hazard card, it would lead to pit traps within pit traps. Which I have done, and at a tournament play at a gaming convention.

if I recall correctly I've had one player search 3 times. Once for room -> Pit trap -> Search -> Second Pit trap -> Search -> Forgot what it was. A few laughs were to be had on that. Just remember that while in the pit trap it reduces the combat die by one. If you're in a second pit trap I'd again take another combat die off in addition to the first. I mean it's a hole within a hole it'd naturally be smaller. Just hope the wandering monster that was found is a mummy. That'd really pose some problems for whoever was the one that found him!
